Or did he take two of every species? If he only took two of every animal, then how was there no inbreeding?

Amazing the responses you get from the questions. Oh, well that one is a child's story. That is a story that we realize could not actually happen, but you need to believe the rest of the Bible, because it is God's word. How it is that God therefore put in a BS story like that? Come on, then when do you really know what it possibly real and what is not? The simple answer on that is that none of it is real and it was written by either half crazed people (schizophrenia) or greedy jerks who wanted to control the weak minds of the people. And lots of weak minds throughout history there were following.

Noah's ark was about 450 feet long, 75 wide, and 45 feet high. It had three decks, divided into compartments, with a row of windows around the top. It would have been similar in size and proportion of ocean ships today. Some have calculated that there would have been enough room in the ark for 7000 species of animals. Yes the ark was made out of Gopher wood, and no there were no eggs, there were two of each kind of animal. A male and female.

This is what happens if you take everything in the bible literally: You run into one contradiction after another. If Adam was the first man, and Eve the first woman, and they had 2 sons, where do we all come from?
The bible (especially the old testament) is a collection of stories that try to explain where everything comes from, define a code for living together, etc. But it's not a scientific recording, nor is it a history book.
My interpretation: There was a big flood (perhaps when the Mediterranean filled with water?), and the ark story is an attempt to rationalize how it is possible that there are animals and plants besides fish.

Noah took on 7 individual (not 7 pairs) animals and birds of each kind that were clean. Since these were clean animals and clean birds that would be used for food later, it would be important to have extra breeding stock. In reality there were 3 pair of clean animals and clean birds plus a seventh. The seventh one was to be offered as a sacrifice at the end of the flood (Gen. 8:20). If an animal were unclean, which the vast majorities were, then only one pair was taken aboard.

The ark would have had more than enough room to carry all the animals. When the Bible is properly researched this is very obvious. Only air breathing, land dwelling animals would have to be placed aboard the ark (Gen. 7:22).

Genesis 7:2 - They were to take 7 of the clean beasts and 2 each of the others - male and female.

God made the animals come to the ark. Noah had built the ark and put the food in it.

In size the ark was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Conservatively calculating the cubit as 44.5 cm (17.5 in.) (some think the ancient cubit was nearer 56 or 61 cm), the ark measured 133.5 m by 22.3 m by 13.4 m (437 ft 6 in. × 72 ft 11 in. × 43 ft 9 in.), less than half the length of the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2. This proportion of length to width (6 to 1) is used by modern naval architects. This gave the ark approximately 40,000 cu m (1,400,000 cu ft) in gross volume. It is estimated that such a vessel would have a displacement nearly equal to that of the mighty 269-m (883 ft) Titanic of this 20th century. No cargo vessel of ancient times even slightly resembled the ark in its colossal size. Internally strengthened by adding two floors, the three decks thus provided gave a total of about 8,900 sq m (96,000 sq ft) of space.

First off it's a myth, a tale, a fable. It never happened.

Secondly, in the chapter of Genesis that states Noah took every creature by 2, then you read the next chapter it states that he only took the clean animals by 2 and unclean animals by 7.

How did the flys and insects survive?

Where were the dinosaurs placed?

How can saltwater fish survive that kind of rainfall contamination?

If the waters receded as the bible claims, where did they go? Our world is an enclosed biosphere and it's a fact if you melted all of the ice caps and glaciers, it'd raise the water a few feet but not enough to cover Mount Everest - over a mile high and the bible CLAIMS that the waters were over all things - including Mt. Everest.

Someone's prevaricating here!

Even if it were two of every species, there would still be inbreeding and not the diversity we have today.

If there is little or no variation in the population already, nonharmful mutations must first occur to provide some variation. According to the Flood story as bible literalists would have it, almost all populations would have begun from just two individuals but that is ridiculous!

The populations would not have had the genetic variation to allow microevolution of specialized traits to be common.

By the way, they tried to repopulate lions in a game park in South Africa using just a male and female. In less than 40 years, every litter of cubs being born were runts and genetic defects began to take hold.

Actually, you are a result of inbreeding. So am I. So is everyone. While it may not be by family members who lived in the last 5000 years, it was by family members to begin with. That's the only way the world could populate itself. Even now, with the massive overpopulation of Earth, there is still selective inbreeding by close relatives happening in many places. Luckily, it isn't prevalent, but it does happen.

According to the Bible, Noah took two of every living creature. You must keep in mind that he took two of every creature that existed at that time and within proximity. It would be safe to assume that he, in know way, was able to take two of every living creature on Earth. Aquatic creatures, for example, are not even mentioned.

The bible says that God told Noah to take two of all living creatures - one male and one female. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. Genesis 6:19-20.
