depends on how bad your teeth are. I flew over the handlebars of my bike when I was 7. Knocked out 11 teeth, so the braces weren't too bad...compared to the crash. They really hurt when they tighten them to re-align your teeth but it goes away after couple days

No. I had braces twice, and im 15. If your teeth are really bad, there is just a lot of pressure on you teeth. It doesnt hurt though. When you get them removed, that doesnt hurt either. The first few days your mouth is sore. But it does not "hurt" its just uncomfortable feeling. Taking a pain reliever before you get braces will help, and then take another after the procedure. Try staying away from hard foods the first few days.
Hope this helped a little =].

Well, I don't want to scare you but yes they do ache. It's not unbearable though.
Your teeth will ache for a good week or two (my teeth actually felt like they were itchy, it's a funny sensation), as will your lips because the braces will be rubbing against them (You'll get calouses though, don't worry. Just ask for wax when you get your braces put on).
Just take Motrin every four hours (But try not to go more than a couple of days because it will eat at your stomach, possibly causing an ulcer.) After the first two weeks they don't hurt until you get them tightened, but even then they're only sore for a day or two.
It's nothing to be afraid of, it's more annoying than painful. After awhile though you'll forget they're there.
If you have anymore questions feel free to e-mail me :P I've had them for over four years now and I'm finally getting them off June 8th :P My e-mail is: one_into_god@yahoo.com
Good luck :)

The only real time they hurt is when they put a tighter wire on or use the rubber bands to pull your teeth closer. It doesn't really hurt it just makes your teeth feel sore. The worst thing about braces is the wait; it takes forever, but it's worth the wait and the pain.

well depends. i had some ages ok. they dnt hurt when they put them on, except for one part buts its more anoyin than anythin like u just want them to hurry up and get it over with. bt wid me the first day was fine. its the day after. make sure u have painkilers! U WILL NEED THEM!
but its just an ach and goes away. after a few days its fine, then it just repeats when you get them tightened but u just get used to it. but dont worry its not that bad and its worth it in the end. dim panic!

They only hurt at first. When you get them on they can cut your mouth. I had to use dental wax to keep this from happening. They feel tight and it can give you a headache for a while. When you get them tightened it will also hurt. Its an uncomfortable feeling not neccesarily pain.

it also depends on how well you can handle pain. before my kids went to the orthodontist, I gave them a couple of aspirin and let them eat a big meal. they had discomfort after every visit, but it wasn't too bad and it was pretty much gone before they got hungry again. remember, sometimes the anticipation is worse than the actual event.

Yes they hurt a lot! & just when you start to get used to them, its time for you to go and get them tightened!!!! But it is really worth it after you get them off, don't forget to wear your retainer!
