4 weeks is waaayyyyyy too young to be taken away from his mother. That's why he whines. I'm surprised he's even eating on his own yet. Keep a watch on him for problems due to this.

As for the name, I always make my cats earn their names. I don't name on coloring or marking. I've had cats for up to a month with no name before. Then one day it just hits. A mannerism, something. Funny thing is your cat will be involved too. You'll say a name, it won't respond. You'll say another name, it won't respond. Then one day BAM, you'll say "You're such a ????" and he'll respond. That is where you'll find your name.

ENJOY. Kittens are so much fun, but so much trouble. They are light, and energetic, and playful, and there isn't much you can keep them out of ;-)

I hope he is still on Kitten Formula if he isn't with Momma cat anymore - if not call your vet for advice as he is still a very tiny kitty! Hmmm, a name. We have a boy cat named Roscoe and my husband named an orange and white cat A.J. just because he liked the initials! LOL Don't worry - kitty will tell you his name when he is ready. We just adopted a cat that is kinda dumb and also a bully to the other cats so we call him Biff - from the guy in back to the future. :o)
P.S. I love the suggestion from another person to call him Naranja - the word for the color orange in Spanish

Simon, Sidney, Goldy, Oro (Spanish for gold), Tom

Good luck! :)

Don't forget to have him fixed when the time comes (before 9 months).
