You can if you want. Or you can do them every other day, a set amount and then add three more reps the next week per set. Do three sets. On Saturday do your max. See how that works. Base how many reps per set you do by dividing your max by three and then adding three. Rest at least one minute between sets.
I do pyramids. I started by doing 11, then 10, then 9, then 8 and so on then came back up. Rest in between. I'm now starting at 20. I end up doing about 500 pushups before I'm through. Add only one set per week if you decide to do that. Don't start at a high number or you'll avoid them.

no because just do what you can do or just have a goal of how many push up you can do each other day.
