I have a three year old and a one year old BOYS, we live in brooklyn, NY. Their father and I want to do something fun, yet inexpensive on either Sunday or Monday since those are his days off. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.

Have them help to plan and make a picnic lunch and then go for a picnic at their favorite park. Take along some balls, bats, sand toys, or even water guns!

There's the Children's Museum on the upper west side.

Also, you can walk along the river from 66th street on the west side all the way uptown. They have outdoor restaurants like the boat house, and a burger shack, there are soccer fields, swing sets, boats to look at, etc. The air is clean and there are no cars (but some bikers and bladers.) My one-year old loves it down there, and he naps well in his stroller b/c there's less traffic noise.

Central park has a ton of swings on the west side by 76th (?) street. And if you head over to the zoo (off 5th ave and 66th), there's usually clowns and face painters set up to entertain your kids (and get tips from you!).

If you think your 1yr old can sit still for it, it's very fun to take a row boat out on the lake in Central Park. And of course there's always the carriage rides. Don't forget the carousel in CP too!

My suggestion is to bring BATHING SUITS for your little ones. There are quite a few fountains they can run through in both the parks, and it's going to be hot this weekend.

How about the Central Park Zoo? It's much smaller scale than the Bronx Zoo, and a lot less expensive.

How about the zoo? My daughter loves going to the zoo and if we had one like the Bronx Zoo, we'd be there all the time!
