YES, all you have to do is graduate basic training.

And if you get deployed you may not even be doing your MOS overseas! I was a 13P (MLRS FDC field artillery) stationed outta Ft. Sill. When my unit got deployed, we were doing convoy security threw Iraq. That's the job of MP's not FA! But we did it.

If you read page 2 of your contract you will see the term "as current needs require" that means it doesn't matter what you were trained to you, you do what the military needs you too

Yep. You can be deployed to fight in Iraq with only basic training and AIT under your belt (could be as short as 20 weeks for some individuals). This is why I find it ironic that after 3+ years, the Army made up of the Iraqi populace which has seen violence and war for years is still not ready to stand up for its own country, yet we can take a 18 year old kid from the suburbs and send him off to fight with less than a half years training.

Yes - my husband was in Iraq less than 6 weeks after he graduated AIT. That was when the war first started though. I think now they try to send new soldiers to units that aren't deploying for a few months so that they have more time to train and learn. TRY to do it anyway; it doesn't always work out that way.

Haven't you been told in ait that most of your knowledge you will gain in your unit? If it happens that your unit is deploying... better you'll be. I think a person gets the most experience while deployed.

yes. If you are assigned to a unit that deploys three days after you get there, you deploy with it.

In fcat, the strong possibility exists that you will be deployed ina capaicty that is NOTHING like your MOS.

You join a military service. They own you at this point. You can be deployed and probably will. Advanced Infantry Training is all you need to be a ground pounder. Believe me, you will have a platoon Sergeant take under his wing and stick foot in *** to teach you what you need to survive. Listen to your senior non-coms.
