Have an identity formed, a sense of who you are, what you like, in case somebody ask "so who are you?" don't say something stupid, like i work at ____ and study at ____, make sure you know yourself better than anyone else. Travel somewhere outside your country, learn a lot about another culture. Have your goals set up (long term and short term goals) read everything you can, be important in some body's life, and everything you do, do it with enthusiasm. Hope it helps, good luck ;-)

When I was 20 a zillion years ago, I felt sheltered in part because I went to a private college and partly because of my parents. I vowed to have children, be a teacher, a success in life and have great credit. HAH!

Learn wisdom, altruism and compassion... study whatever philosophy and subjects you like but study something, enjoy your physical abilities as you're able because when you get older you start wishing you were 20 again, take nothing for granted. Have compassion for yourself, make peace with yourself, and take responsibility for your own actions.
I wish you a long and auspicious life!

In time for perhaps the very last of the boomers, Sesame Street debuts on television. ---I would have watched it more and asked them to do a better job teaching the concept of "UP" not a day goes by that someone younger than me doesn't ask me "what's up?"
But also, Penthouse begins publication... in plenty of time for the boomers. I would have read it more and looked at the pictures less
June: President Nixon announces his "Vietnamization" designed to help the Vietnamese deal with their own problems, and extricate the U.S. from southeast Asia. I would have yelled "Bovine Feces" louder
July 18: Senator Ted Kennedy drives his car off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island off Martha's Vineyard, killing his young passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne. This major story was partially drowned out (sorry) by the moon landing that took place just days later. A week after the accident, Kennedy received a suspended sentence, and that was the end of it. But many Americans would never look at Kennedy the same way (and few would ever ride in a car with him at the wheel.) I would have linked it to his brothers death rather than being outraged by his handling of the situation and perpetuating the rumor that he told Mary Jo "So what if you're pregnant, We'll cross that bridge when we come to it"
July 21: The U.S. wins the space race convincingly by landing a man on the moon. Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, and Michael Collins fly on board Apollo 11. "Houston... Tranquility Base, here; the Eagle has landed." Event of the century? Possibly; we all thought so at the time. We met the late president's challenge and conquered outer space. This gave Americans confidence that we could beat the Russians in anything... if put to the test. I'd look closer for the special effects.
Thousands of party-goers sludge through the mud to experience four days of rock n' roll at a place called Woodstock. Heavy press coverage makes the event seem larger than it was and shows the passing of baby boomers from young children to adult children. I'd have arrived sooner stayed later and tried harder to meet the performers.
August 10: Charles Manson and other members of his cult murder actress Sharon Tate and six others in a horrible event that was referred to as "Helter Skelter." Nothing I could have done.
The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) claims that marijuana is harmless to both the user and society in general
I would have started donating to them then rather than years later. .
The U.S. spends no more money than it takes in. That won't happen again till the boomers hit 50. I'd still protest the fact that most of it went to the war effort.
An oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara spreads over 30 miles of the shoreline. This is the first major of dozens to follow in the next 25 years. I'd start supporting "EARTH FIRST" sooner than I did.
Dr. Laurence Peter introduces the world to his "Peter Principle," which states that workers rise to their level of incompetence. I'd point at Nixon as proof.
President Nixon bans the production of chemical weapons.
I'd actually admit he did something right.
As the first of the boomers reach their 20's, the cost of medical care begins to rise sharply. I'd kiss my blue cross card.
October: "I will say confidently that looking ahead just three years the war will be over." - President Nixon. I'd tell everyone "I'll believe it when I see it." {it took 5 years}
The "Chicago 7" (even though there were actually 8) have their day on court. Attorney William Kunstler, defends David Dellinger, Rennie Davis, Tom Hayden, Abbie Hoffman, Black Panther leader Bobby Seale, Jerry Rubin, Lee Weiner, and chemistry professor John R. Froins. Bobby Seale is gagged and chained to his chair because of his courtroom outbursts and sentences him in November to 4 years in prison for contempt of court. The others get off with relatively light sentences. I'd have tried to attend the trail if possible.
November: President Nixon appeals to the "great silent majority" to support his Vietnam policy. I'd have done more to help the noisy "minority" oppose it.
"Marcus Welby" and "Monthy Python's Flying Circus" debut on television. Watch more Monty and still ignore Marcus.
The Academy award for Best Picture goes to "Midnight Cowboy." John Wayne wins for Best Actor in "True Grit." Paul Newman and Robert Redford star in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." I'd have wished I could see those movies again (no VHS or DVDs)
November 15: 250,000 protestors (mostly students) march against the war in Washington, D.C. It is only fitting that the decade ends with just as much excitement and turmoil as it began. Like Woodstock arrive sooner stay later and try harder to meet the performers
December 1: The Selective Service conducts the first draft lottery since 1942, affecting 800,000 males born between 1944 and 1950. Pretty much repeat what I did. Burn My draft card in public and then report it lost and get a replacement.
