It's just a psychological tactic to break you down in order to build you up, that's all. The intent is for the unit to build their characters and uphold the values of the service together. Don't take it literally, it's actually a tried a true method, not that it works on everyone.

Everyone is a f%ckup in boot camp. Your DIs are there to break you down and then build you back up as a Marine, not be your friend. If you are still considered a f%ckup a couple years down the line you should probably consider a new career. A great thing about the military is that you transfer to a whole new place with all new people every 2-3 years. You get a fresh start so it's all up to you, because negative paperwork usually seems to fall out of service records in transit.

My friend, EVERYONE is treated that way and called something to that effect in boot camp. They have to break you down and make you feel worthless to get you to stop putting yourself first all the time. They were just playing a mind-game with you. You are NOT doomed to carry that negative title forever and ever, Amen. Just remember the basics: (1) Obey the rules. (2) Exceed the standards. (3) Be a team player. (4) Do the best job that you can. (5) Listen and learn. (6) Set a good example for others. (7) Take pride in yourself and your uniform. (8) Be honest. (9) Keep your word. (10) Protect your brothers and sisters in arms -- with your very life, if necessary. P.S.: If you find that the dreaded "title" carries over from boot camp to MOS training, make a concerted effort to be the U.S. Marine Corps poster child. You CAN become a squared-away member of the Armed Forces and erase all past negative comments that were ever made about you. Make the commitment to yourself and do it. If you made it through Marine boot camp, you can do pretty much anything.

Thank you for your service.

Being a f%ckup is entirely a mental condition.

While physical weakness is most certainly a detriment to success, all but the very worst (which if you had, you wouldn't be accepted into the military to begin with) can be overcome with perseverance.

For simplicities sake, you can think of perseverance as the opposite of the attitude that leads to being a f%ckup.

All recruits are in that category. Some few, very few never learn to be squared away and are usually discharged for the good of the service. The rest become squared away marines and sailors that is what boot camp is all about.

Anyone can rise above others negative opinions of them with hard work and dedication to service. It is hard, however, if you are a part of a small MOS that offers only a couple of places as duty stations. If that is the case, then the same dang people who knew you at one duty station will know you at the other; and it seems like they never let moments of embarrassment go! Many times, depending on how screwed up you are, calls will be made prior to you arriving at your new duty station to the 1SG or Platoon Sergeant informing them of your attributes and characteristics. Like I said though, you can prove others wrong by doing the right things and being motivated. I had plenty of screw ups that did their best and eventually became the best.

i think it's both physical and psychological. not everyone has the same physical strength or mental capacities. meaning some people think at a slower pace or may take them longer to catch on to things.
i do believe that with commitment and self determination anything can be accomplished to the best of their ability.
can they become a squared-away member of the armed service........sure.

Look inside yourself Luke....

Most aren't born that way, their parents and community instill it in them and for the most part they are irretrievable.

Recruiters really should screen candidates better before we get them at boot. The DI/MTI is the second filter. We try to shock them out of it(5 percent success) and ease them out the door if that fails. To get kicked out of the service can be devestating to already fragile folks so it is not done lightly.

many meetings about you took place well out of your sight and many professionals have observed you without your knowledge to determine that YOU INDEED ARE A F_up.

Truth friggin hurts, but hey!
