To be completey honest, I would be a little surprised to find a gun store or pawn shop without a variant of the ak. A true Russian AK-47 could be tricky, I only saw one parts kit a couple years back. Second any major gun auction site will have them. you can try auctionarms.com or gunbroker like the others mentioned, both have good finds. Then there is the regular online dealers like southernohiogun.com, centuryarms.com, aimsurplus.com and many others.

You can get a semi-auto Romanian or Yugo many places.
I'd check out Centerfiresystems. Lois can ship to your FFL dealer.

SOG - Southern Ohio is a good source as well. You need to have a dealer get you a price from them. I've got a buddy with a FFL and he has worked with SOG before.
Don't take the AR bigots or antigun idiots too seriously, I have an AR too, plus AK and SKS. Better to have something then nothing. the affordability of buying an AR vs an SKS or AK is about 1/2 price. I like shooting all three. I wouldn't slight any of the three.
The AK is not as accurate as the nail driver AR. The AK get about a 6"-12" group, where my AR I get about a 2" group at 100 yards.

A semi-auto AK can be purchased at any serious gun shop. I am talking about a "real" gun shop, not a Gander Mountain or Cabela's. It should run you $350-$450. You can't get these mail order, so when asking this type of question you really should let us know regionally where you are at so someone familiar with that part of the country can give a suggestion on a good shop.
If you lived in Northern Illinois, I would suggest G.A.T. Guns (East Dundee) or Megasports (Plainfield)

Suggest a Romanian AK as there workmanship is very good. Primo models are German. Any firearms dealer can order you one if they don't have one in stock. Go to J&G Sales in Prescott, Arizona; I believe they just got a shipment of the new Romanian models. Semi-auto AK-47's are one of the most reliable general purpose rifles in the world today; and are completely legal to own.
Don't be put off by the knee jerk reactions of the liberal left; who, if they lived in any other country but America, would be in reeducation camps and used for slave labor. They blind themselves with their own rhetoric.

It's hilarious how naive and ignorant people can be."Thats a evil weapon bad guys use it,So it must be illegal."I don't even know why these people answer in the hunting area because they are totally clueless.Anyway,Out of all the assault rifles in the world,None is easier to get than the AK type. It's very cheap to make, provides a lot of firepower, and its rugged (which is why criminals use it).Depending on the origins, model, and condition,It starts at around 250$ and usually doesn't go much higher than 600$.Saiga makes good ones for cheap, look for them at a local gunstore.

In reference to the idiots...
You are stupid.
It is actually a common gun to collect and fun to shoot. The gun is very durable and probably the most durable gun around. It can be buried for 5 years in sand and still can shoot the same as when it was buried. They are made commonly in the United States and sold at a relatively fair price. Not as acurate as the AR-15 but a blast to shoot. At 100 yards I can put a pattern of 12 shots in about a 6 in to 8 in center.

You can buy a semi-auto variant of an AK-47 in most US states.
I don't know for sure whether you can get a full auto one with a Class III BATF tax stamp or not. It does fall under a Type II weapon class, and I believe outside of CA, MA, NJ, and CT (who all have/had there own assault weapons bans), I can't think of what else bans it, since the Assault Weapon Ban sunsetted in 04. Although I think the AWB targetted the semi-auto variant as well.
Honestly though, don't buy such a hunk of junk.

Call around a few gun shops in your area and ask them if they can order one from these guys and ask their pricing policy. You must use a federally-licensed dealer, who does the leagal transfer and NCIS check for you for his fee.
The Romanian one listed should be about $400 your cost.

WoW if you want one of those all i can say is find a street hustler Seriously because you can't go to a local or public retail store and find one.
All i can say is you have to have connections to get that kind of weapon.
