I am going to get veneers on my front four teeth in a couple of weeks. How do I protect them from popping off or breaking them?

Remember to treat your veneers as "jewels, not tools". As others have mentioned, be careful what foods you have to "tear" with (tough pizza crust, bagels). No biting off price tags or biting your fingernails. I night guard would be a nice investment into protecting your teeth while you sleep. Many people grind their teeth at night and I can't begin to tell you the amount of patients that have chipped/broken off their veneers from it. The ones your dentist can custom make for you won't be cheap (anywhere from $300-$500) but it will save you a few trips in to get your veneers fixed. You could also buy a niggard from the store (in your toothpaste aisle) that is one size fits all. It's big and bulky but better then nothing. Good for you for educating yourself on how to protect your new smile!! Good luck!!

Be careful eating hard foods. Like if you eat an apple, better to cut it up instead. And if you grind your teeth, wear a mouthguard so there's not a chance of chipping it. Of course, floss, brush, and keep up with cleanings. Careful with dark drinks or just use a straw. It won't stain like real teeth but overtime, it might get a little dull. I've had one of mines for almost 5 years and still as good as day one. Good luck!

HELLO LYNNE,

YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE TYPES OF FOODS YOU BITE INTO - NOTHING HARD. FORGET ABOUT EVER BITING YOUR NAILS OR OTHER PARA-FUNCTIONAL HABITS WITH YOUR TEETH.
HAVE A NIGHT GUARD MADE TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE VENEERS DURING SLEEP. GOOD LUCK.

They will be fine as long as you don't chew on pencils and bite off hard bacon or frozen candy bars. Your dentist should give you a run down on things not to do. They rarely break and I've never seen one pop off.
