OK, I'll bite

An orange is green before it is ripe
An orange can be orange, but may be closer to yellow sometimes, or closer to red
An old orange starts to turn brown
A really old orange is brown, and has some grey on it (mold). The grey may not count, though, since it is not technically the orange that is grey.
A really really old orange can be black.

A totally ripe orange is yellow-orange according to the crayon box!
