When an American Senator says he doesn't care about the environment because he and other good Christians will be raptured long before global warming becomes a problem, we have a problem. Stop electing buffoons like him and sure.

No. Because people's religious beliefs inform their ethics. I'm gay, and even though I live in what is supposed to be a secular democracy, religious interests are working overtime to ensure that I don't have access to equal rights, because of their own narrow interpretation of Scripture. So there's a real-life example of why we CAN'T just "agree to disagree." My pursuit of happiness is literally at stake.

And religious people would counter that I'm "forcing a lifestyle" upon them by insisting that I be granted those equal rights; but any lucid human being ought to be able to see the difference. Giving gay people the right to marry does not mean that straight people will be forced to marry members of the same sex. It doesn't take their rights away, or in any way impose upon their rights; any more than allowing people to practice whatever religion they choose diminishes Christianity for those who really believe in it.

People argue, strongly discuss, all subjects they are passionate about. We could all agree to disagree but then we would still have to agree on what to disagree about.

I agree to disagree. I just see it as very rude when they profess to know what is in my heart. They can't and they don't. No matter what their bible says.
