So far my hubby and I have been okay. We're able to pay everything on time, and have grocery, gas and weekend money..but this time of year is the WORST. There is always SOMETHING going on. Seriously, we have three baby showers, two bridal showers and weddings, a house warming party and three birthdays all in the next two months! (I married into the BIGGEST family on the planet.. my husband has 21 Aunts and Uncles :/ ) It's hard to find the extra money for so many events.. how do you guys stay afloat?

thrift stores, e bay, we have 5 children, it can be hard but be thrifty, your family is asking a lot of you, try to make gift baskets for the occasions you can, buy the baskets at thrift or craft stores, and shop at dollar stores and discount stores for different things to fill them up, use color foil saran wrap, and a pretty ribbon, they are nice and people love that you took the time, also hand made coupon books offering your services, babysitting, cooking a meal, cleaning there home, or anything that person might need, and buy new gifts for the few occasions that should be new, like a wedding, its all about being creative

You can find nice gifts at a discount store!!
I know you all have a "Dollar Tree"
anyways...

Just go to the dollar store.. for the house warming get some little trinkets, that can sit on the table and for the bridal shower.. get some nice picture frames.. still a dollar and for the baby showers... baby lotion, shampoo, and body wash... simple...

Good Luck

I understand. I have a big family too. We had to let them know that we wanted to spend more time with them, and not just make it about gifts. We also set a firm $10 limit on all gifts at holidays when we buy for everyone, and $20 for birthdays, showers, etc. We actually get better gifts because they are more well thought out.

Instead of spending $$ on a baby shower gift, make diaper cakes. For the cost of a pack of diapers and a roll of ribbon, you can make a beautiful diaper cake that will just be oohed and aahed over, and really be the talk of the baby shower. Here's a website for some inspiration. I always take a diaper cake to a baby shower, and every MTB I've ever made one for just raves, so do the other guests, and they are always a hit. Plus, MTB really appreciates that you made it yourself.

I buy gifts in advance on cheap clearance, so when we have a birthday, a shower, wedding ect I have the gift already. Generic gifts, like onesies for babies, puzles for b-days and picture frames for weddings. I never shop off a regestry, most of the pretty stuff I registered for with my wedding and babies were useless anyway.

I buy things when it is the off season. Swimsuits in the winter and heavy coats in the summer. You can get things for so much less. My husband and I were able to get a brand new grill for $25 and it was normally $250. I also do little things to try to get extra money. I sell Mineral Girlz. It was free to try so I figured why not. if you want more info on it e-mail me and I can tell you more. We also try to limit the number of brand name items we buy and try to bargain shop with groceries.
