It's possible. Rare, but possible. The trick I've found is you can't be trying to convice the other person that you're right, or prove them wrong for that matter. It's pointless and you'll always end up angry.
No, the trick is to go in with the intention of enlightening yourself. Try to get in their shoes, in their head. Figure out what their path of logic is and why they believe what they do. Ask questions, a lot of questions and make them detailed. Just make sure that you're doing it out of curiosity and not as a challange.
Hope this helps!

You're right "faith" isn't the right word.
Of course it is possible to have an intelligent discussion on here even if it is rare.
People rush for the quick "witty" answer to affirm or deny the question. That's boring as far as I'm concerned. I'm here for the interesting questions and the thought out answers and many others are too. Just find these people, add them to your contacts, and you're good to go. As for the rest, ignore them. Though I would like to caution that some of the quick short answers are really quite witty.
Some questions are just stupid too. Many themes are constantly repeated over and over again and it gets frustrating. How many times a day do Christians ask about Pascal's Wager? How many times a day do non-Christians ask an equivalent to God creating a rock he can't lift?
The best advice I have to offer is that you can pretty much tell if a question is going to be thoughtful or bashing right away. Don't even bother clicking on the ones you think is from a troll. Only click on the questions that you find interesting. And give them a thoughtful answer.
Oh, and there is no god.

I suspect the only way you are going to have a decent conversation is to link with someone whose answer you liked or perhaps an answer you wanted to know more about. Any decent question, looking for verification or enlightment, is liable to be buried under the rude, obnoxious texting of those who disagree with everyone. As Smarterthanthou said, the atheists want to beat down the believers and the believers want to quote scripture, so no one really listens.

No it can't happen because many Atheists (not all, by any stretch of the imagination) think Christians don't read any books but the bible, haven't gone to college, haven't lived a normal life, don't get out much, don't think for themselves, are weak, need a leader, are moron, are ignorant, haven't explored anything BUT Christianity, were all raised in Christian homes, can't think for themselves.... and these are the most common generalizations I can think of off the top of my head. If they REALLY think that then they approach a Christian in a combative, "better than you- not as dumb as you-stronger than you-more learned than you" defensive manner, and the conversation always gets ugly, and puts Christians and Theists on the defence. In fact there's no room left for a normal conversation. It almost starts out as a fight.

Although there are plenty of extremists, it is possible to be a Christian and to also accept information from the natural sciences. That view goes back to the early Church, but it was in Galileo's time that they put it most colorfully and memorably: the Bible tells us how to go to heaven, not how the heavens go.

Its possible, but both sides would have to work together. Atheists would have to stop telling Christians they suck and stuff for believing in God, and Christians need to stop quoting Bible verses, thinking that its gonna answer questions. If everyone respected each other and their beliefs, we'd be okay.

No it's possible. They come and go. I asked a question the other day (see below if you want) that I got some great answers too, and I'm very grateful for that.

I think it's possible. And you are so correct in that there is too much name calling, belittling and such going on here. I simply don't answer those questions becuase I know it's just people trying to cause trouble.

That discussion is possible, but one must look between the jokes and rudeness to find it.
And "faith" is definitely not the right word.

I think so. Philosophical reasoning is not a bad way to go about trying to answer a question.
