Wars are fought for a variety of purposes, but they mostly come down to two (or more) groups of people not being able to solve thier disagreements any other way.

Some US wars and what they 'gave' us:

The revolution: gave us the USA, and the freedoms we enjoy today (actually more freedoms than that, be we should still be thankful for what we have left).

Barbary Coast wars: Freedom of navigation for US merchants in the mediteranean.

1812: Repulsed a British invasion.

The Civil War: Preserved the Union, freed the slaves.

Mexican-American War: A good chunk of the SouthWest.

Spanish-American War: not much, really, a few islands, a good war story for Teddy Roosevelt, but it was a pretty minor war.

WWI: Lots of dead soldiers.

WWII: Ended Japanese Imperialism in the pacific, reversed Nazi conquest in Eurpoe and ended Nazi genocide, ended the reign of the original 'fascist' dictator, Mussolini. Japan, Germany, and Italy all subsequently became friendly nations.

Korea: Saved half the Korean peninsula from communism (just look at the DPRK).

Vietnam: Cemented the power of the American Left in politics for decades to come.

Panama: Ousted a dictator.

Gulf War I: Liberated Kuwait, reversing the conquest by dictator, Sadam Hussien.

Afghanistan: Ousted the oppressive, theocratic Taliban 'government.'

Guf War II: Toppled said dictator, established military bases to replace those 'voluntarily' closed in Saudi Arabia.

FREEDOM.....with out it you would not have this sight to ask and answer what ever...called freedom of speech and that's just a start...hit the archives in your brain and remember your history books.....its called history for a reason....I love my freedom to do almost anything I want and I don't want to loose it so if it is war to keep what we have so be it. And thanks to every soldier out there who is protecting me and my freedom.
