If you are interested in applying for a position with the FBI as a Special Agent there are some preliminary requirements that must be met. You must be a United States citizen, no younger than twenty-three, and you must not have reached the age of thirty-seven by the time you are hired. All candidates must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited, four-year resident program at a college or university. Prior to employment, all candidates must complete a rigorous application process. Successful completion of a written test and an interview are followed by a thorough background investigation which includes credit and arrest checks, interviews of associates, contacts with personal and business references, an interview of past employers and neighbors, and verification of educational achievements. Drug testing, a polygraph examination, and a physical examination are required. The completed background investigation is then assessed for a final decision on hiring.

If you live in the territory covered by the Minneapolis Division, please contact the Minneapolis FBI Office. We will be happy to forward information to you in the mail. Check out the FBI's Main Employment Section for additional information on the Special Agent position.

When is the best time to apply?

The FBI recruits for highly talented individuals all year long. Our inventory of job postings frequently changes, however, as new jobs are posted and old advertisements close. Therefore, it is a good idea to review our job postings regularly to see if we have posted a new job in which you are interested. You can also set up your email notification preferences when you register on our website and we will notify you of FBI vacancies that match your interests and geographic preferences.

Given the FBI’s unique security requirements and the length of the background investigation process, it is best to apply at least six to nine months, or more, before you hope to begin employment with the FBI.

You extra advantageous no longer tell every person on the police branch which you're only dropping by way of for some years. They spend 1000's of dollars to coach you and that they assume a return on that investment. they do no longer prepare you which you would be able to quit and bypass off to the FBI.
