Before you point an accusing finger at the Mormons, have YOU checked out what YOU have been taught by the leaders of YOUR church? For instance, do you believe:
God is a trinity, even though there is not one single scripture that describes God as being made up of 3 co-equal, co-eternal persons?
it is acceptable to go to war, even though Jesus said at Matt. 5:44 to "love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you"?
it is acceptable to call your church leaders by religious titles like "father"? Matt. 23:9
it is acceptable to celebrate pagan holidays like Christmas, Easter, and Halloween?
it is acceptable to venerate the cross, even though it is a agan symbol that predates Christianity by thousands of years?
it is acceptable to ignore Jesus' words at Matt. 28:19, 20 to "make disciples of people, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you"?
If you are not complying with the above, how can you say ANYTHING against the Mormons?

From what I've learned in the scriptures, it tells me that the heart is deceitful. That we shouldn't trust our hearts. I'm learning that God speaks to me through his Word, not with a burning in the bosom. If you go to a movie, read a book, or hear a song and have good feelings is that the Holy Spirit? No, it's not. You can have good feelings when someone is talking about Jesus. It doesn't mean that the Mormon church is right and every other church on the planet is wrong. Since I've left Mormonism, I've found another church. Let me tell you, the way I feel when I go there is nothing compared to the Mormon church I went to. It's like I was dead and now I'm alive.

Thats the way it looks. Satan masquerades as an Angel of Light. Thats why you are not to believe every spirit but test them to see if they are from God. Gordon Hinkley has plainly said that the Jesus as taught in the Bible is way diffrent than the one taught by the LDS. The Bible is considered unreliable so they changed the meanings and now have a totally different concept of Christ than traditional Christian churches. The idea of becoming Godlike was first introduced by Satan in the Garden of Eden when he told Eve if she ate of the forbidden fruit they would become like God, knowing good and evil. That message is still around today when they say "follow our version of the Gospel and you will become a god." The idea of being Godlike is what made the Angel Lucifer fall and become Satan. He thought he could content with the Creator and got booted.

Most Mormons know the difference between Satan and the Holy Spirit.
I was wondering if members of the other churches had that problem listening to Satan and thinking it was the Holy Spirit.

If either "Satan" or "Holy Spirit" actually exists isn't even a debatable argument.
Here we are in the 21st century, creators of sophisticated equipment that can tell us within a few feet where we are on the planet, view satellite photos of Pompeii ruins on our laptop, receive pictures from Mars, analyze DNA history back thousands of years, and yet over 60% of the American public still believes in spirits and demons.
You mentioned "thinking" in your post. Your question belies that.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Maybe it's non-LDS Christians who follow Satan thinking they are following the Holy Spirit.

Paul wrote in Corinthians 12 that that was not possible.
3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
