My son (almost 3) is pretty much fully potty trained for daytime while he is awake. I put a diaper/pull-up on him for his naps and for nighttime. His diaper/pull-up are always fully soaked when he wakes up so he pees a lot while sleeping.

I think that it will just take time for his bladder to be able to hold it and that eventually he'll just learn on his own to stay dry during naps. My friend insists that I should wake him up from his naps as well as several times in the middle of the night to force him to pee.

So will he just learn on his own or do I need to continue "training" him during naps and nighttime?

thanks so much for your advice.

I think that it would be cruel of you to wake him up during his naps and during the night. It usually takes most kids longer to learn how to hold in their pee throughout the entire night. I have a three year old girl and it took her a couple of months after she was completely potty trained during the day to stay dry during the night. If he is peeing that much during the night you might want to lower his liquid intake before he goes to bed. Give him most of he fluids during the day so that when night comes he wont be as thirsty.

My son is the same way... first off don't let him drink anything a hour before bed adding to the need to pee. thirty Min's at nap time. Have him use the bathroom before he lays down. I'd only get him up once in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Naps are not long enough to do that it will actually hurt him by having disturbed sleep and he'll wake up just as tired. Say he goes to bed a 9 till 7. Wake up up to pee around 2:30 to use the bathroom. Have the hall and the bathroom have a night light so when he gets the idea that he can get up to use the bathroom he can go by himself. I wouldn't push it more then that cause he is still young and is learning.

No, don't wake him during naps or at night. This will be more disruptive to his sleep pattern and might make him more anxious about going on the potty. You are right - it just takes a little time for his bladder to adjust to holding it for longer periods of time. I used pull-ups at night with my daughter until she was 3 1/2 and used to getting up at night to go if she had to. The first night she slept through the night in her panties without an accident I made a big fuss over her being such a big girl. She's 5 now and hasn't had an accident at night since.

You are doing a great job, mom, keep up the good work and trust your instincts :)

I would have to agree with everyone else. I would not wake him up to go potty. My little boy is 3 and he is pretty much potty trained also...but wakes up wet sometimes. I put him in regular undies though (I used a mattress protector). He does not drink anything for about an hour before bed time and we make sure he goes potty before he goes to bed. Nap time same thing. There little bladders figure it out eventually. Good luck!!

To me its undeniable and sensible, if they aren't dry or mess unfastened, they have got to put on diapers. It isn't the tip of the sector to put on diapers at night time for defense. My son is five and wears diapers to mattress each and every night time for mattress wetting. He will turn out to be dry at some point however till then why fear approximately the small stuff. Keep the diapers on till he can keep dry for a pair weeks. I consider its worse for a little one to get up to a rainy nasty mattress and rainy nasty pajamas. Keep him in diapers at night time..
