18, 5 days after i turned 18. I had my own design a treble clef with butterfly wings and i had shown it to my mum and dad just before I turned 17 so Ive had this image with me longer than most! They were cool with me having a tattoo they were only worried about the pain. My parents know that I am mature for my age and they respected the fact that I had stuck with the same image for over a year and i chose a place to get it where i could show people if i chose to. so they bought me my tattoo :0) that was monday btw and im still very tender!!

I got my first (and only so far) 2 weeks ago. I am 23 years old. I have always wanted one since I was 18. People say if you pick one out wait 6 months and if you still like it then get it. That is what I did. I have a tribal design with a rose in the middle on my lower back. I love it and I don't regret it one bit.
Good Luck and go for it!

Make sure that you what you get, you won't mind having when you are 60 or 70 years old. People make the mistake all the time of getting something without really thinking it thru and then they either have it covered up or regret getting it to begin with. I got my 1st tattoo when I was 20. Between the age of 20 and 28, I have gotten 2 additional tattos bringing my total to 3. I'm currently in the market for my 4th and final one.

A TaT is for life,i actually waited until a friend of mine became a seriously competent Tattoo artist,i was 40 yrs old,got a wolf jumping out of my upper arm, because of my full name,3rd is wolf.He is actually a very good artist ,but at 21 had little direction in his life,he asked me because i was an older artist if he should get into Tattooing, his girlfriend wanted him to just work in a "normal" occupation,i advised him and her to live on beans on toast and suffer whilst he trained in this art,he even went off to Germany with another fantastic Tatooist and eventually came back as his mentor told him he was now better than even he had become! My friend offered for years to give me a TaT and being a canvas artist i refused, then my 40th approached and i had a photo of my wolf,he said no problem and six hours later (as much pain in the arm muscles as i could let the friendship bear) , i had my perfect wolf.I have told you all this because i would advise you to think very very carefully about how certain you are about having it done, who will be doing it,where you get it done regards place and where on your body you have it done!. I havent regretted my wolf, because he is very very personal to me,also he is done exactly the way i wanted, exactly where i wanted and in muted colours,i have only ever come accross one person who hated it and they had a phobia of dogs!. Be VERY very CERTAIN ok and choose wisely. If i were your dad, this is what i would have told you,not you cant have, not you wont have, just be sure and dont go by mates saying go on,your the one who will live with it for life and suffer the pain for at the time and smear the cream over it for a few days! Hope this has been helpful.(good job he is not me dad your thinking) Good luck whatever YOU decide, hope you get exactly how you want with no problems if you decide to go ahead now or wait awhile.

I decided what I wanted when I turned 18. Got it two days after my 19th birthday. Then I decided what I wanted three months later. Got the second one three months after I turned 20.
Think about it, make sure you can live with having whatever tattooed on you forever. If you still like it after a year, you probably won't regret the tattoo.

I was 20 when I got my first (and only) tattoo. In truth, I passed out 2/3 of the way through. My tattoo is a kanji (chinese writing) from the I ching (tarot form taught with coins that symbolise values/virtues) that means "Standstill/Quieting the Heart" (virtue 52).
