Im tring to potty trian my 2 year old son, but at the same time I don't like him to be stuck in the house. I usually like to take him to the park but i was told once i put him in underwear not to put him back in a diaper, and there are restrooms at parks and if there is they are dirty. Should I just keep him in the house or is there another way.

many people will tell you not to use pull-ups, I'm not one of them. I have 2 children ages 3 and 4. I would put real underwear on them when we were at home, and pull-ups on them when we left the house. It worked for me. Both of my children are completely potty trained. It took about 3 weeks for my daughter and 4 months for my son. Every child is different. Good Luck.

I put my son in a diaper when we were out. I also made sure that he understood that the diaper was for accidents only. However, I still took him into public restrooms just to reinforce the desired behavior. I know the restrooms, especially the park restrooms, can be disgusting so it is a good idea to cart some Clorox or Lysol wipes for easy clean up. Hand sanitizer is handy too. I would have to say that as long as the child is not too young to understand what you are teaching them then putting a diaper on for outings should be alright. My son who had just turned 3 spent the whole day at the Zoo in a diaper and decided on that day that he was potty trained. He stayed dry all day and asked to go to the potty. I haven't put him back in a diaper since. Good Luck

Don't go back to diapers and don't use pull-ups, except maybe at night. Think about it a pull up is just a diaper without the tabs.
Keep several changes of clothes and clean underpants with you always, and if you don't like the park potty, let him use a tree. He's 2 so most people just look the other way. If you are uncomfortable w/ this keep some Wet Ones with you and give the potty a quick clean up before having him go.

When u step out the house put a pullup on him. Pullups are intented to slide off like regular underwear and it is like a diaper so in case the child doesn't get a clean restroom in time.

Only use the pullup when u leave the house, because if u don't they child will become too depedendent on the pullup and will not want to use the potty at all.

When I started training my oldest I had the same problem. I brought along her potty chair. It is small so you can keep it in the vehicle and take it into the restroom when needed. Then you do not have to worry about the condition of the toilets. It always just worked better for me, I have been doing the same thing with my now two year old daughter. She is still trying to learn also. I wish you luck!!!

When I was potty training my kids I would keep them in real underware when we were at home, and I would put pull-ups on them when we went out. It doesn't make sense to have him or you miserable, especially during this stage.

Also another tip is whenever he uses the potty at home, make it a big deal. Clap your hands, dance, give him hi fives, hug and kiss him and tell him how proud you are. This worked for all three of my kids which are now 10,12,and 13, and I also potty trained my nephew who is now 3. I am the potty training champion of the world! lol

You can buy a miniature seat which fits average toilet seat. Keeps their body away from dirty toilet surface, public restrooms. Also many places now feature "family restrooms" with child-sized facilities, makes them feel more comfortable. Please do not keep the child at home. Get him use to other surroundings so he won't have anxiety about going to the restroom, when training is complete.

Take a picture book with you. Get his attention focussed on the book and not the surroundings. Also wet wipes are nice to have instead of using restroom t.p.

It took me months to potty train my son. Parents of girls seem to have it easier in this area.

You don't have to keep him in underwear always. A child will step back and forth in toilet training no matter what approach you go with. Slow and steady wins the race. If you are at home they yes underwear is great as it's easy to clean up accidents at home. You should get the diaper pants/training pants for when you go out and for night time. They still seem like underwear to him and have cute pictures on them but it's much easier on you for cleaning up the little accidents. If you are stressing out too much the whole process will just seem to go slower and you will be more devastated if he does decide to take a slight step back in his training.
Have fun and enjoy it! You will look back and laugh :)

never fear! pack a travel bag with hand sanitizer, wipes, spare underoos and a portable potty seat (see link below) Also keep in mind, if you feel like you need to put him back into a diaper, it's not the end of the world. sometimes you have to trust your best judgement. I used pullups for longer outings, like road trips or trips to the grocery store. (here's a tip: if you use pullups, make sure to get the kind with tear-away sides, it makes handling the poopies a lot less messy!)

There are some "travel potties" for the car that come with disposable plastic bags. Just buy one of those. We have them and it works great.
By the way don't let little problems like this stop a natural process :)
Good luck,
