I already deleted this item from my control panel, but can't seem to get rid of this item in my system tray. I even tried right clicking the item, but that will not allow me to delete it, and it makes me wonder if it is really deleted out of my system

Hi Follow this thing
Strart -> Settings ->Task Bar and Start menu. Click on "Customise" button. Select The Item in Name Column. In Behaviour Column select " Always Hide" from drop-down list Then Click Apply.
You are done.

This is simpler way, complex way is through Registry editor , but I am not sharing the same as you can risk your system if you don't configure it properly.
All the Best

to control the start up items, go start run, and type in msconfig, hit enter, this will bring up a system configuration screen. go to the startup tab and find the application that you are trying not to show. unclick the check box, you may want to do the same thing for others that you do not use. then hit apply, and ok, reboot your machine and when it comes back up you will get a message about things changing, click the box in the lower left hand corner and this will stop these messages from poping up every time you restart. if your not sure about some of the entries, check google to see if they are legit or not.

How to remove items from the notification area in Windows 20
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310429

This step-by-step article describes how to remove items from the notification area. The notification area is incorrectly called the "system tray" by many people. Many software companies design their programs so that they display an icon in the notification area to increase the accessibility and visibility of their products. Although notification area icons can offer a convenient way to access and control programs, you may not be using some of these icons. They may also needlessly occupy space in the notification area.

You tried, control....add or delete programme......has it gone from there? Clicking on the icon on the tray only removes the icon ..it doesn't delet the programme. Have you closed the computer down and restarted it since you did this.....It might have gone then
