A wave is a weighed down curl and in order to train your hair to curl up and lay down you need to brush 60+ minutes daily. A brush really is all that you need but a wave cap/durag and a moisturizer and pomade will definitely help. Go to this site for detailed methods and product reviews http://360waves.net

The products you are using build up on your hair so re-applying is not such a good idea. To reactivate the product, you'll need a blast of heat from a hairdryer to your hair which will make the wax 'pliable' or 'workable' again. Waxes coat the hair and are waterproof so adding water won't help at all in your case. A tip when using waxes is to heat them up in your fingers with a hairdryer or by rubbing your hands together, they'll be easier to work with and you only need a small amount.

Not just brushing, the wave cap helps and the wave grease is another.
