If you are looking for a conventional war like WWI and WWII you won’t see it anymore. Technology has gone into a path that makes those kind of wars obsoletes and useless.
This is actually not good, because conventional war was based on destruction and re-construction. This is the key and the real point of war. When you destroy and re-build, you move money, human forces, and the economy, both global and of many countries (usually those who win the war) goes up, and those who win become the top power and can control the World.
But the new era has brought to us a new kind of war. This is a technological and at the same time religious war. This is a very bad mix because on one side, you get a technological war that leads nowhere. You don’t have to destroy anything to win the war. You can now use satellites and the latest technology to direct a smart bomb into the enemy. No casualties (or a very low number), and almost no destruction. Economy doesn’t get any benefit from it.
The other problem is the religious part, which is the scary part of the new war. The so called “terrorists” are our enemies (not just the US, but the entire World, including their own people), and they will sacrifice their own life for their cause (suicide bomb is the perfect example).
How can you fight someone who is not only willing to die, but that actually wants to die? You can’t, at least, not the conventional way.
Religions are the worse thing that has ever happen to humans. All conflicts recorded in history have been because of religion, and of course for land (land to be taken to continue expanding that religion). Of course, there have been other causes like fighting for love. Long time ago many countries would go into war just because their King was in love with the wrong woman, but that is not the case anymore.
For a war to be “World War”, it must include a big percent of countries on it. Well, if we can classify the new era war as real war, and add to it the fact that most countries in the World are now in war, then no, we will NOT see WWIII, we are on WWIII.
If you are worried about nuclear weapons, don’t be. It is very unlikely we will see a war were nuclear weapons explode all over the World. On the contrary, we might see some extreme cases were a nuclear disaster will happen in some important cities, but that’s about it.
What you need to be worry is about the fact that in many countries, and soon everywhere in the World there will be no more peace, and you will not be able to go to the Mall, or to the Grocery Store without putting on a Bullet Proof jacket and a Helmet, not to protect yourself for bullets, but for suicide bombers that could attack anywhere, at anytime.
I particularly don’t believe in religions, any religion. That doesn’t have to do with my believes in God, which I reserve to myself. But as far as I am concerned, all religions should be destroyed and banned from the surface of Earth. Religion has become the “cancer” for humanity, and unless we all don’t do something about it, we could end up dying for no reason.
And we claim to be the smart ones. Makes me wonder.

It could be 28 minutes from now or 280 years from now. When the superpowers square off against each other in two camps, then come back and we'll talk apacolpse.
Until then, just think regional conflicts, wars between rump states, proxy wars and brinksmanship. If you recall the Yom Kippur War in 1973, a coalition of Arab States (Egypt, Syria and Jordan) were soundly defeated by the Israelis. That was a worse situation than the current conflict and it didn't raise a blip on the world war radar (not that it didn't have the potential to spark a global war).
The next World War will involve a nuclear exchange, how could it not. In the first 30 minutes, nearly a billion people will have been vaporised, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. Another 1.5 billion will die shortly thereafter from radiation poisoning. The northern hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.
Eventually the nuclear winter will spread to the southern hemisphere and all plant life will die. You ask when is the apacolypse, you are asking when will we commit global suicide. My answer is it won't happen soon because the larger superpowers are more rational than the rump states in the middle east.
Our biggest risk is an accidental launch of nukes by one of the nuclear powers.

It has already started. The media just refuses to acknowledge it so most people do not realize that a man by the name of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is president of Iran. Delivered a declaration of war on all non-Muslims while at the UN the last time he was here. He prayed to be the man who brings about the apocalypse so the Caliphate will be reestablished. This was totally ignored by most news media.

No the world leaders at least know that it would end in almost total destruction, you see its kinda like WWI where everybody thought it would be so glamourous and exciting and noble, when it turned out to be gritty and horrible.Everybody thinks this will be like other wars but it wont be.

I don't know about WW 3, but I think we will be at war with the entire Middle East (excluding Israel) soon enough as well as various other conflicts.

today the meaning of "war" has changed. we much talk about "conflict"s. there is no possiblity of an overall war of "national armies". the coalition militias are on the scene. i think this will continue. regional conflicts will be existing but there is no possibility of a global war, especially a nuclear war.

We are in it. It just so happens that there are few countries willing to fight back right now. Give it time. If we don't stand in allegiance against radical muslims, it will get a lot bloodier before it gets better.
