Or that the world was "created" in 7 days, or that Noah put 2 of EVERY animal in the entire world on a boat the size of a limo? I mean really people, don't you think it is time that you stop be brainwashed by a book that was written before people even knew that the Earth was round? I guess by your logic Dinosaurs din't exist either.

I was flipping through the channels on day and came across a Christian kids show.

It showed a dinosaur talkign to the kids and they were telling them how they were around in 4000 BC and that the earth was only 6000 year old.

It was ******* DISTURBING.

I'm a Christian and the idea that the earth is only 6000 years old is pretty absurd. The earth was probably in existence for eons before man. Genesis doesn't exactly specifiy how much time elapsed between the creation of the earth and the creation of man. There could have been plenty of time for dinasaurs to roam the earth.

Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.
Gen 2:3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.
Gen 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.
Gen 2:5 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up--for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground,
Gen 2:6 and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground--
Gen 2:7 then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

As for the time it took God to create the earth, it actually was created in 6 days and on the seventh day he rested. God is the greatest power in the universe and if wants to create something in 6 days he can certainly get it done.

Also consider that to God, time is not so relavent:

2Peter 3:8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

As for the Ark it was certainly much larger that a limo.

Gen 6:15 This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits.
Gen 6:16 Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks.

A cubit is an ancient measurement that equals about 22 inches. By English measurements, that would make the Ark almost 550 feet long and 55 feet wide with three decks. This is certainly enough room for all the animals and Noah's family.

Some people believe that - if they read the Bible as if they were reading a newspaper or a scientific paper which *may* be an account of literal scientific facts.

My belief is that the world is about 4.5 billion years old, yet I am a full Christian at the same time.

Although the Bible does contain historical (and even scientific) accounts, its main message is *symbolic* in nature, as the key to unlocking the symbols is to understand the linguistic forms and the culture in which a particular book of the Bible was written.

For example, the sharp two edged sword coming out of Jesus' mouth in Revelation, is not a physical literal account of something, but is merely symbolic of Jesus' Word having supreme power.

Likewise, the six days of creation could be interpreted as six phases (of undetermined length) in a 13.7 billion year old universe - after all, the sun and the moon were created on the fourth day.

Well first off Noah, put those animals that were considered clean in 7 by 7 then Noah put in the animals that were considered un-clean in 2 by 2 also all of those people that believe that the earth is only 6000 years old have been badly deceived by their un-knowing false religious leaders.......

Yes, there are lots of Christians that believe in a literal week of creation, and that life on this planet is not more than "about" 6000 years. Many serious scientists work along this idea and find a lot of facts that appears to prove it to be so. Those that laugh at this are just not enough informed to see the point. There are so many gaps in the idea of an evolution that it remains but a theory. Serious scientists know and admit it to be so (just a theory).

They believe that dinosaurs were created by God about 5500 years ago, despite scientific proof (carbon dating) to the contrary.

People tend to respect answers provided by their loved ones, specifically their parents. Parents pass on what their parents have told them. Clergy have been assigned the role of proxy by the parents and children accept this. The "church" has exploited this human trait to empower themselves and their agents since tribal times, when shamen discovered that passing on their dogmas maintained their place of power.

Remember that the Catholic church was responsible for the Dark Ages. Soon, let's hope they will end.

Yes there are many people who believe this (actually I think the figure they use is between 7-10,000, but I'm not certain on that). And no they don't believe in dinosaurs either.

And they would say that your faith in the scientific method and scientific findings is as much a leap of faith as theirs is in god and the bible.

I don't agree with them, but that's what they would say.

No-one who has looked at the facts does. Which is why some people so desperately avoid looking at the facts. I'm a Christian. I'm also a biologist. And I haven't found any conflicts between the two. Why should there be? Truth cannot conflict with truth.

Some people do believe that, yes. I'm thinking that they missed a lot of school.
