Often the contents of the envelope have a phone number on them. If you call and tell them that you want to be removed from their mailing list, legally they have to remove you. If you ever get anything else from them, you can call them, tell them that in the past you called to request being removed from the mailing list, and that because of their failure to do so, you are now consulting a lawyer. That's usually enough to have them remove you for real.

Yes, look for a phone number somewhere on the advertisement, call that number and request to be taken off their mailing list. I have done this before and it has worked with some companies, others not. Some companies charge you a small fee to get off their list.I don't believe that they are legally required to stop mailing to you, but it is worth a shot.
You can also send a postcard requesting to not be sent junk mail from companies that you have never had contact with to:
DMA Mail Preference Service
PO Box 9008
Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008
They also have the same service for telemarketers. Write them at this address:
Telephone Preference Service
PO Box 1559
Carmel, NY 10512
If you still receive junk mail, remember that envelopes that have that little clear plastic window are still recyclable in many communities! You don't even have to tear it out. Plus, paper makes good "brown" composting material, so if you have a compost bin that's full of "green" material (food waste, grass clippings, etc.), shred your extra paper and use it to balance out the content of your compost bin!

Call or, better yet, visit your Post Office. They can divert your junk mail (at least most of it) to their recycle bin.
Unfortunately, you cannot stop the junk mailers the way you stop telemarketers. The junk mailers are protected by the First Amendment; technically, you do not own your mail box -- the U. S. Postal Service does. You do own your phone and you pay for your service, so you have some rights to determine who has access to you.

Check out greendimes.com. It's a company that will do all the dirty work for you in taking you off all the junk mail lists.
They also plant a tree for you every month to help reduce C02 in the air.
They do however, charge you $36 a year for this, but it is fantastic service!

Yes. When you enter onto your e-mail page , at the top of your e-mail listings, you'll see a tab labled "options". Click it and you get a page giving you the ability to control your incoming mails. Read it and research the the page more.

Call the company and ask to be put on their do-not-mail list. It's something similar to the do-not-call list for telemarketers.

If they're can-spam compliant, you have a chance of getting rid of them. Otherwise, you'r just telling them that they found an active mailbox. DO NOT CONTACT THEM. Just delete and forget.
