My father is atheist and when I became a Christian I was worried how he would react.
He was very supportive of me, and even attended my baptism. He also let me use our van for church related things and once did give some money for a friends mission trip.

Bullsh*t. No Atheists is going to attend church for any reason other than a very close friends wedding or something.
The concept of an Atheist donating money to help build a church is laughable. Where on earth are you getting this rubbish from?
They would NEVER donate money or time to christian or any other religion sponsored organization especially as there are so many non religious charities that desperately need help, precisely because they are NOT religious.

properly, that doesn't artwork in my church. i'm Catholic, and we've not got any variety of open mic type centers. we are liturgical, so there could no longer be any variety of dialogue happening in the process the Mass. in all probability some thing after church? truthfully! it would might desire to be an atheist of the terrific philosophical high quality. My priest is extremely properly knowledgeable and might probable airborne dirt and dirt maximum folk of the arm-chair atheists right here in R&S. Shoot, i may well be too scared to even play devil's propose with him. Of the sought after "4 Horsemen of Atheism" i might might desire to %. Dan Dennet, logician of technology. Sam Harris is purely too monotone and boring to maintain all and sundry's interest. Richard Dawkins has an extremely unusual view of classic Christianity and is purely too zealously related to his materialistic worldview. Christopher Hitchens might get thrown out after 2 sentences for his language. Yup, Dan's the guy. Now that talk i might opt to be certain.

I do not know many other nonbelievers, or atheists, but gosh knows I know leagues of Christians. I am older than the T-Rex my Uncle Noah brought onboard the Ark, which is one reason I live in a lively "retirement community." Most of the good people living here are even older than I am, and religion gives them comfort as they gallop towards death. I never even bring up my opinions about religion--why would I want to hurt the feelings of my elderly friends? And there are mountains of religion and religious talk and religious services here, and casual talk of god and Jesus and the hereafter and life-after-death. Most of the old women here live on Social Security, and as it happens, because of my life in the professional theatre, I perhaps have more greenbacks in my faded jeans than they do--so of course I "support" my religious friends. A $20 bill or two, to be put in the collection plate of this or that church is scarcely gonna break me. I love these people and enjoy their company. I am a nonbeliever now as I was at age 9, a cotton-mill boy in the Jim Crow South, but I'm also a human being, a father, a grandfather, a Shakespearean actor, a scribbler, and an old man who's one of the 56 million Americans with disabilities. I relish the hugs and hand-shakes and sweetness of my religious friends here, and nearly all of them say nice things about me. We are family, all of us; we all all of us come out of Africa, the desendants of ape-like critters who had only a million or two years earlier first walked upright. These old men and these old women here are members of my family. I do not believe in gods and all that, and at this late date this ain't apt to change one little bitty iota, but, hey, I'm a human being first and whilst I love nearly all animals--one of which is sprawled over half of my keyboard right now, licking his behind--I don't mind it that I am of the puling human variety.

The flip side...I have been to some gatherings/parties that were primarily made up of gay people...and had some rather fundamentalist Christians attend as well...The fundamentalists actually were nice and seemed to enjoy socializing with us...
I think the world would be a better place if we all made an effort to socialize, and get to know people in a more relaxed setting...without debating issues/politics/religions...just live with each other...and learn, we are all really the same...

I am an Atheist and have been to several church services in many demoninations. I find the structures of control that a church uses on its members to be interesting.
I do not however support any church in any material or financial way as I consider Christianity to be a harmful influence to society.

I don't know any atheists that support churches financially. I know that I, as an atheist, would sooner gouge out my eyes than tithe. I'm all for taxing churches, in fact, since they're really turning into political institutions.
Charity, sure - even "Christian" charities - as long as I can be reasonably sure they're on the up-and-up.
But I refuse to financially support an organization that promotes an agenda I find morally appalling. Wouldn't you?

I never invite people to church. I just try to explain to people how salvation works and how I know that it's true.
Jesus gave three commandments. Love thy neighbor, go into the world and preach the gospel, baptising in the name of the father, son, and the holy ghost, and to confess his name before men. Therefore, I believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

Yes, I went to school with some that were open-minded in the sense that we agreed to disagree. They didn't feel the need to demonize anyone who believed differently they they did.
I wish all Atheists and all Christians were like that.
