Last night I was laying in bed with my boyfriend. I started falling asleep and I randomly said the name "Jesse." I've been with that guy before, and my boyfriend knows it. He got really mad for a few minutes, then dropped it. But I know it will get brought up again. I don't have feelings for Jesse anymore, so I don't even understand why his name just popped out of my mouth. How should I explain this to my boyfriend??

Things like this happen a lot more than people realize.

You need to reassure your boyfriend that he is the one you want to be with, and no one else. If he doesn't bring it up again, it will be good. However, if he brings it up as fuel for arguments or fights, you need to settle the issue as quickly as possible.

Something about the situation could have reminded you about being with Jesse. You could have been laying in bed with Jesse before just like that, and it would be understandable to say his name absentmindedly.

Just reassure your boyfriend, and go from there.

You cannot unring a bell! All you can do is prove to your boyfriend that it was a slip of the tongue while on your way out of the waking world. Be sure that you are truly wanting to stay with him & not Jesse because this will show after a while.

It is natural to think about what might have been but you have to accept where you are & what you are doing. If you really love your boyfriend, you can prove it by staying with him & being happy! Just let him know that nothing is going on with Jesse & do not bring it back up!

These things happen, especially in new relationships. If he does bring it up again just say it meant nothing and that it would be best to let it roll off his back.

Simply apologize and tell him you don't know why that name came out. Imagine how you'd feel if he said another woman's name. This shouldn't be a deal breaker, but it's understandably a little upsetting. It'll pass.

Your screwed. I've done that before and it was thrown in my face several times after wards. Good luck convincing him you didn't mean it. It hurts their ego.

Tell him you are sorry and you don't know what happened. If he keeps bringing it up then dump him.

You have to prove to him that he is special and all of your feelings are for him now.
