Sometimes it is REALLY hard to think before you speak. I know exactly how you can feel, because I have such a hot temper, too.

The first step is realizing that is your problem..

Second thing to ask youself when getting mad about a situation at work or wherever you are, "Is this going to effect my life in five years?"

If the answer is no, then it will be easier to let I go.

Good Luck to you!!

Well, I used to have this problem, but it was the result of my brain injury. I didn't have the problem before that. The difference is that I do say what I mean, but it's often not necessary. Nothing I say, for instance, will ever change my parents. We just weren't meant to be in the same household.

What I learned to do (from a romance book, no less) is just keep my mouth shut, count to 20 while deep breathing. Think about "Does this matter? Do I really care about it? Will it change anything?". Most of the time no. I do find that there are times when I simply have to avoid certain people (they are deliberate button pressers and thrive on annoying others).

Sometimes it is just because I am too hot or have a stuffy head or my hair is oily. I developed allergies to pollen in recent years, so if I take my medicine in the a.m., I'm less likely to let little things bother me. The oily hair thing...it never occurred to me that you can overheat if you have oily hair. I just had to go to washing it daily in the warmer weather or I'm just a b***h

If you feel yourself getting upset and frustrated, remove yourself from the situation. Take a deep breath and think about what you are about to get all pissed off about. Is it worth getting yourself all worked up? Is it worth hurting the feelings of those around you? I had a friend with the same problem and to be honest she was no fun to be around. I was always worried that some little thing would tick her off and she would completely ruin the atmosphere. So for yourself and others take a time out and think before you act out irrationally. Try to see about some anger management classes. Good luck! And don't be that friend that no one wants to be around, OK?

Try to see the "big picture" & think about if what you are going to say is actually going to help the situation/you in any way. You can also choose not to respond in any way for at least... (you choose the amount of time). Usually it is our innitial reaction that is the worst. After that, it doesn't seem as important or bother us quite as much.

As you feel yourself getting angry - step back take a deep breath and walk away. Something else might be affecting you and everytime someone says something it triggers your anger. It will take time but we have to work at calming ourselfs.
