you get from Christians?
Atheists tend to be reasonably consistent, whereas each Christian will give you a different interpretation of whats "true". How can all these people claim to be Christian when they have contradictory answers to basic questions? Logically, only a tiny percentage of them could be correct.

sonfai: You're incorrect. Even the most basic details are disagreed upon - reasons for going to hell vary wildly (I'd have thought that was pretty important).

As a Christian, I can say that for the most part, you are correct. Some denominations of Christianity differ on some aspects of our belief. But you also have to realize that our faith is very personal. Most of the time you don't want straight Bible quote answers, so some of us answer from our heart, from our own experiences and with our own opinions. This can cause differing views. For those very reasons, there are some questions I won't answer because I don't want to mislead someone. Then there are some answerers who really need to read the Holy Bible. We are all different. You seem to want us to be exactly the same. Sorry, that's not going to happen.

God Bless.

I think I'll have to be the devil's advocate for this one :P

The atheist view is relatively simple. It's based on the discoveries of science. Most of which are very well known, by religious people and atheists alike. Although I should point out that many great scientists are not atheists. It's almost as if to truly discover something extraordinary, you need to believe in God :P

The religious view is more complicated. You'd think it wasn't but it is. The problem is that it all comes from one book. And, no matter how comprehensive the book may seem, it does not describe many things in sufficient detail. So various people have set about to fill in the blanks. Some of that filling in is "official", and some of it is just random stuff people came up with. Combine that with the fact that being a Christian doesn't mean you know the Bible by heart, and suddenly you realize that it would be quite impossible for them all to agree. Just look at how many sects there are in Christianity. They all have more or less the same Bible. They all believe in Christ. And yet, somehow, their views manage to be quite different on just about everything.

That all being said, I would not claim that the answers a Christian provides are of a lower quality. Some know what they are talking about. And some don't. Which is what can be said about every group. Unless you defined your groups as people who know what they are talking about and people who don't. But then your group would constantly shifts as someone utters some bs while another says something that is actually sensible.

I've seen the same thing. But in our defense, some of the questions are basically asking for opinions. When you ask a question that evokes opinions, that's what you'll get. Jesus crucified and resurrected is firm. God is firm. Salvation is firm. Some of the other stuff gets into doctrine differences. You have to admit that not very many scientists agree on the beginning to end evolution model. I read science sections in the news every day and have yet to see universal agreement. I'll even go as far as to say there is less agreement than what Christians show. Reason? It's all based on opinion.

As an atheist I can't exactly always say that I'm consistent or coherent, so I'll leave that to the perceiver, but it is rather frustrating when all their opinions about everything come from a Biblical perception as if it were the only reality in the world. While this is helpful in personal spiritual growth (or not) it's not a lens by which to force others to view the world at the same time, nor is it logical to use to view much of anything else.

Very true. I have to agree with you on this. Hense why I don't believe in Christianity, only in Spirituality, and good lord do the Christians give me a lot of grief about it. They say I'm not a true follower of God since I don't go to church and don't believe everything in the Bible. It's annoying. My path in life is between me and God and not for the Christians to judge. They do seem to have a different answer for everything. None of them seem to have a consistent answer.

(obviously not all Christians are the same, I'm aware of that)

If i'm attempting to be humorous or impolite, anybody will comprehend all approximately it. all and sundry individual who does not like it, is conscious the place they are able to stick my pages as quickly as they have revealed them out...! no longer in basic terms do Atheists look to outnumber all the different communities prepare, yet besides Christians (i.e. churchgoers), all different religions are very poorly represented. the place are all the tens of millions of Scientologists, Christian Scientists, Wiccans and actually Satanists? the place are the ECKists?

I actually thought you question was going the other way, that the quality of answers from Christians were better, since most atheists just say, "god isn't real", "is just a book of myths" "do what ever you want", "Your ignorant/stupid/gullible/afraid".

They rarely answer the question, while Christians at least try to understand it.

But to answer your question: Keep in mind this is Yahoo Answers, a place where anyone can call themselves anything and say anything.

Your not even getting consistancy on this question. That just shows that not everyone agrees on everything. There are a lot of Christians that I dont agree with. Thats why there are so many different kinds of churches.

Because everyone is an individual and everyone interprets things differently. Some people want to bend beliefs to fit their lives instead of making their lives line up with the word. Therefore you will have different answers and opinions.

If you dug deep into atheist beliefs, you would find inconsistencies - things like the big bang vs. steady state theories. Or perhaps, what shape is the universe.

But since this is a Religion and Spirituality forum, we don't tend to see those debates.
