my husbands oldest son is almost 5 has chicken pox and has had them for about a week or so. His mom took him to the dr. today and they said he only has 1 more to scab before he isn't contagious..my question is that I have a 14 month old son...if his pox scab over it it safe for them to be around eachother this weekend?
It's kind of a complicated situation so I don't want to go into more detail but I'm not sure what to do.
I called my son's dr. too because he hasn't been immunized for this yet, but they couldn't really tell me if my son was at risk!!

okay, just to clarify a few things...
my son has NOT seen his brother in a long time so no he wasn't exposed before. Also, my question is will my son likely get the chicken pox after his brother comes over tomorrow night??
The 5 yr. old's dr. said he only has 1 more left to scab before he ISN'T contagious. I'm just not sure what to do...let him get them (possibly), or keep them as far apart as I can

I would let him get them. When else will you have a chance to expose him to chicken pox?

The vaccine can wear off, but this natural immunity won't.

Boost his immune system with some cod liver oil, Vitamin C and probiotics and expose him. If his immune system is working well, he shouldn't get very sick.

Chances are your son is already exposed..if he was around your husbands son right before he broke out!
Usually when the pox are scabbed, and there is NO fever they are not contagious!
Remember if your 14 month old does get chicken pox..no asprin products!

So, whats your question?

Do you have a 14 month old w/ chicken pox? Try Aveeno oatmeal bath.

Ok, I saw the additional details. Just let him get it. Chicken pox are a great way to strengthen the immune system. Unless theres a BAD history in your family, dont get the immunization for it. He could get them anyway (the immunization is NOT 100% effective.)

Chicken pox are believed to be a virus our bodies are SUPPOSED to go through (like I said, to build immune system levels). We keep loading ourselved up with drugs for everything .... its sad. LET their bodies fight a small virus, its good for them!

#1 you cannot immunize for this childhood disease.
#2 because your son is sooo young you could ask the doctor to give your son a shot of "gamma-globulin" . This injection may prevent the symptoms from developing or ---if they develop---may make them much less servere.
#3 If there was any question as to getting them from another child, manners be darned, I would NOT have my child (especially a 14month old baby) around the source at all. Everyone else could go for the weekend etc...I would stay home with my baby.
#4 DO NOT GIVE ASPIRIN to children or adolescents who are ill with a fever, because aspirin has been linked to "REYE'S syndrome, a potentially fatal condition.
Children should be suspected of this syndrome when a child who has chickenpox or another viral infection (such as a cold or cough) begins to vomit and becomes drowsy. Reye's syndrome can cause an inbalance in the chemicals in the blood, cause brain to swell as well as liver and kidneys.
This can also lead to seizures because a child's developing brain is more sensitive to disturbances such as a fever or changes in the balance of chemicals in the blood than the fully developed brain of an adult.
A baby is going to have a much worse time with chickenpox than a five year old...The itching would be so much harder to manage and spread to eyes and nose. A five year old can be easily distracted with coloring or watching tv etc... but a baby is going to be so much more miserable.
Your baby has only YOU for protection, so do your job WELL..

Rashes are one the varieties of illnesses that often might desire to be considered to get a prognosis. some rashes have very classic indications so i might call her medical doctors place of work and communicate w/ between the nurses. they are able that may well be useful you artwork it out over the telephone or they might propose she are available. It extremely certainly relies upon. FYI: Varicella(poultry pox) is going by levels. they begin as purple pimple like dots then exchange to sparkling fluid blisters, then to cloudy fluid crammed blisters. this alteration occurs over a 24 hour era. She does not have been vaccinated yet because of the fact the vaccine is authorized for toddlers over 1year of age. additionally a sparkling suggestion is anybody who has had the vaccine get a 2d dose. This then is to furnish life long immunity. There was once one dose, yet they have stumbled on one dose replaced into no longer giving life long immunity. any individual who has had the disease itself does not require any varicella vaccines.

are you trying to ask if its ok or what???
i had chicken poxs when i was real young, so why not. a baby gets the ckicken pox vaccine at about a year old so i don't see why a baby couldn't get the ckicken pox at around a year old....
i think once they are scabbed over, then your son cannot get the ckicken pox because it is no longer contagious.

Have you taken them to a doc? We got called on this from our daycare, for 3 mosquito bites.

So much for organic bug repellent.
