As a christian I enjoy drinking, I don't get drunk but I talk to people in my church about it and you would think I was the devil himself. I'm curious what other christian's opinions of alcohol are.

It is not a sin in the Bible, or in Tradition.

As long as you are not getting drunk, it is fine. There are so many other things to be worried about!

There are people that cannot just drink a few, and those people should avoid it and we should respect them and not drink around them.

I used to be Protestant, but now am Catholic.

I grew up a Methodist, and I was taught to pretty much frown upon all drinking. But part of this is just because of my Dad's own bad experience with alcohol. He was never an alcoholic or anything, but the very few times he did drink, he got drunk quickly, and reacted badly. So he very early on became a teetotaller. And my parents have passed this on to me.

So I have to say I was very surprised when I went to my Pastor's house for dinner, and she served this amazing chocolate cake - and I asked what made it so good - and she said there was Jack Daniel's in the frosting! (You don't cook frosting, so it would have been alcoholic). So I was surprised and she told me that she is ok with drinking, as long as it is not abused. She doesn't believe in getting drunk.

Then my Dad was told by his heart doctor that he had to start drinking red wine for his cholesterol. My dad pleaded with him to let him try some other way, but the doc insisted that red wine was the best way for his particular problem. He wasn't happy about this but was able to drink the small amount required without any problems or bad reactions, and his cholesterol is better. In fact, our pastor brought him a special red wine from North Carolina, that tasted better than the bad-tasting stuff he had been drinking. It was so odd for me to witness my pastor bringing my Dad wine!

But the point is, there's nothing wrong with it in these cases, as far as I can see.

Also, I became a little more tolerant of drinking (not getting drunk) when I was interested in Judaism. Jewish people drink a little wine and they do it very responsibly. It's a part of their rituals.

My opinion is that it's ok if you do it responsibly, but I personally choose not to. But I'm not going to look down on anyone who chooses to.

Since the beginning of early civilized nations, drinking had been a part of society's group joyful gatherings.
Even the New Testament has accounts water being changed into wine. In Matthew 11:18 It says there that Jesus does not only drink..he was a drunkard aside from being a glutton and yet wisdom is proved right by his actions.
In Psalm 69:12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards.
Psalm 69 was said to be a prophesy about Jesus. This chapter also shows that he was not as sinless as what the church have been telling about him. Though the world may not know that he sinned, he himself admitted that God knew about his mistakes. Psalm 69:5-6.
There is no main character in the Bible that has not sinned and not made known to man. Even David's sin was known by all people within his kingdom. Solomon cannot deny to God and his people his mistakes. Only Jesus was the character in the Bible whom the world had been taught was sinless until this chapter 69 was read over and over.
Go ahead enjoy drinking but if you think it is destroying your internal organs and affecting your decisions in life, then you have to think wisely before it gets into your systems that you can no longer think rationally. Aside from hurting yourself you could be hurting even the most adored love of your life.

The Bible does not say you can't drink alcohol.. it does say not to be drunk. While I don't drink, have tasted some and don't like the taste, but do not have a problem if some one has a drink. Besides, if you drink alcohol, it is between you and God if it is right or wrong, not you and the people in your church.

Drinking alcohol is not prohibited in the Bible. Getting drunk is. Jesus turned water into wine, Paul told Timothy to drink "a little wine for your stomach's sake." If you can have a drink or two and still be respectable and moral, and you're not driving a car, go for it!

Alcohol is bad. We should all refrain from drinking period. Yes, Jesus did drink wine, but in the New Testament times, wine wasn't usually alcoholic (there were two different wines, alcoholic and plain old grape juice). Plus, if they were to drink the water back then, they'd all die!!!

Anyway, it's better not to.

Hope this helped.

If you only knew the number of drunken, doped-up Christian girls I've had unbridled sex with, it'd make your head spin! I've know many Christian priests, pastors, deacons, sextants, and other clergy that were alcoholics. You'll get myriad answers both pro and con but the bottom line is that the religion you profess has little to do with your true moral fiber and the way you manifest it!

God said in His Word "don't be like a drunk", but He never said don't drink at all. And btw, for the one who said all Baptists would say don't drink, I'm Baptist. Having a glass of wine or two now and then is pleasant and makes for a better temperament. Drinking to excess every day is "being like a drunk".

I enjoy wine, beer, and mixed drinks. I have a bottle of red wine that I never opened. And a case of beer I bought because I thought I was having company over, and they never showed. Once in a while. I believe there is no harm.
