Natural selection should put wings on snakes if the evoloutinary process is active today. Seems these ladies & gentlemen have been on their bellies long enough. james h

Because winged snakes are dragons, and everyone knows dragons aren't real.

Silly.

Why would snakes need wings? Evolution is not about getting what you want or constantly moving to a "higher" state. It is a simple natural process and unless a winglike structure were to benefit the snake it's unlikely to develop. Wings are based off the upper limbs which snakes no longer have. In order for a snakes to grow wings, they would need to grow new and totally different parts. Why hasn't God given them wings if you think that's how they should be?

Flying requires a lot of energy. Snakes have thrived because they can get by without having to expend a lot of energy. There is no evolutionary advantage for them to have wings. Anything which doesn't offer an advantage is not going to evolve (or if it does will die out in a few generations).

If that doesn't convince you what about the part in the Bible that says that snakes are doomed to crawl on their bellies as punishment for what they did to Adam and Eve?

Either way it is not going to happen, on purpose.

Are your retarded? Even the most minor knowledge of aerodynamics or even just common sense would tell you that a snake is not structured to fly. A snakes physique renders it useless for flying. It would be clumsy and have no mid air control. You Bible bashers are trying everything to stunt scientic advancement because you hate it when something uses hard facts and evidence to prove its theories rather than tall tales from a book written by people from a time where education and scientfic knowledge was practically non-existant. Get a life u greasy pagan dick.

Evolution isn't like magic-god and can just zap parts onto creatures any old way it pleases. Evolution is not random. It is very systematic.

The fact that snakes still exist provide de facto proof that they are well adapted for the ecological niche in which they live.

You could just as well ask why humans don't have wheels.

that argument makes no sense.
why would it be better for snakes to be in the air than on the ground?
if your argument was valid, the whole world should be living in the air?
no one can prove or discredit evolution or any other "origin" theory, because no one alive today was there for the process; people can only speculate as to what happened given the data that has survived.

Evolution of species is indeed a falsehood, and it's no different for snakes. But some snakes, like these 'tree glider' snakes can glide for long distances from tree to tree! They don't need any wings to fly!!!

They haven't got wings because they're doing well the way they are. Wingless snakes are better than winged snakes.

are you serious? same reason we don't have gills, we don't need them as humans. That's how we evolved, that's how snakes evolved.

I would agree it doesn't seem "fair" to snakes to be on their bellies all day, but that's the variety of life, and one of the reasons it's so wonderful.

Because they're already well-adapted enough. Unpleasant little monsters, but they're not in any danger of going extinct as long as they can keep sneaking up on prey and avoiding natural enemies.
