Yesterday I was looking at websites of gory pictures of corpses, of people who died in various ways. While I was searching I came across a story of an 18 year old girl called Nicole Catouras who died in a horrific car crash in October 2006. She had taken her dads porshe carrera convertible without permission (apparently drunk at the time) she was passing a Honda at speeds in excess of 100mph, she clipped the Honda, lost control, went over the central reservation, the car rolled and crashed against a concrete toll booth, coming to rest against the booth upside down. The leaked explicit photos of the aftermath were known to be circulated on the net, and her parents are fighting to get them off the net. The photo's were described as extremely gruesome, and I knew that, but my curiousity got the better of me so I set about searching for them. I found them and the photo's showed her body still sitting in the car...She had no face, her head was destroyed beyond recognition-

The only part of her head that was recognisible was her long hair, clumps of it were ripped out and were stuck on the hood frame. Even though I was horrified I couldn't stop looking at the pics, but now I can't get the awfull images out of my head. The worst thing is seing her in her graduation photo and then seing her after the accident, and I can't imagine how devestated her family are.

Well, you have to try to tell yourself, that this is the face of death, and a sad fact of life. and be very careful to never get yourself or anyone else in a situation like this...if you can avoid it. Pray for the, and their families, and just remember that this is a part of life that most don't see...just pray, and ask the Lord for compassion for them.

I saw the images on tv and thought that she looked like wearing an artificial mask. Her sight reminded me of Arnold Schwarzenegger's character in the movie "Total Recall" when he goes to Mars disguised as a woman. But this is only the 4th face transplantation in the world, the 1st in the US. Techniques will improve, surgeons will develop their know-how and a few years from now results will be expectedly much better. Technology evolves so fast. Considering what she had to go through, this is a giant leap forward for the poor woman. She was rather pretty to start with but ended up with her children being afraid of her because of her looks. I don't know the husband's fate but I would expect he would be in jail. I wouldn't be shocked to know that his peers performed some kind of homemade cosmetic surgery on his face.

I am sorry to hear that you had to sit through that. I am also pretty sensitive to graphic images. What I find helps is not to think about them or discuss them or allow yourself to be exposed to them. Once you've seen them, there's not much to do. I still vividly remember images that I saw ten years or twenty years ago. Notice I'm not telling you about them!

I am still afraid of the knives in my own kitchen. Not sure why, but I bet you are too.

A lot of bad things happen in the world, but there are also a lot of good things. You have to get out there and expose yourself to more happy images, and immerse yourself in the simple pleasures like a walk in the park or getting an ice cream cone or whatever.

I find that it is helpful to go somewhere peaceful, wherever it is, and Not Think Too Much. A run is good, for instance. Deliberately making some time for peace helps crowd out the violent images.

Good luck!

that accident happened a few miles from here, very terrible. I know back when I was with the FD, that images would haunt me for days. the best thing is to talk about it with someone, it does help, and the images will slowly go away.

Hey,

It's good your compassionate, God loves that! You may always carry some of that visual input in memory but so what, that's not a bad thing. The good thing is if we believe Christ, she will live again. Anyway, God 'always' is in control. Jesus said, "don't worry, for not even a sparrow falls to the ground apart from the will of the Father, and you are worth many sparrows. And even the hairs opn you head are all numbered". God knows each and every one. Remeber, "he's got the whole world in his hands " and what's in his hand no one can take out, not even death.

Do you know this song, "GOD is great, GOD is good, and we thank him for our food. With GOD's help we all will say, "Thnk you LORD for one more day."

Peace, love and good luck always.

Stay busy, keep yourself distracted by things more wholesome. It will take time, and they'll never go away completely, but they will slowly become less distressing.
