Is 75k/year a good salary for a 23 year old? I live in a *suburb* of Boston and i pay 1100/month for a nice 700sq ft apartment w/ heat + hot water included. It's in a very nice (and wealthy) area also. Cost of living isn't bad at all in metro Boston IF you rent. There is a huge real estate bubble that just starting to collapse here, and most calculations of "cost of living" are effected by the sky-high RE prices. Boston isn't at all like NYC, you can get nice 1br apartments 5-10 miles out from Boston for 1k. As for myself, i'm saving about 1.5k cash every month, and thats because I bought a nice car and have a 500/month car payment, Subaru WRX STi. If i didn't have the car payment and if i lived with a roomate paying 500/month rent, i'd save 2.6k CASH per month.
What do you think? You think this is good for 23years old?

Don't claim the cost of living is "sky high" in massachusetts. What do YOU pay for 1br apartments (1br, not roomates) in your area? I have a "high end" 1br apartment in a very SAFE area 10miles from boston. I pay 1100 a month. Tell me what YOU pay.

Well your salary sounds outstanding to me, but I am not 23...
I am 55 and disabled and my husband pays all the big bills here at our house and he is 53 years old and makes about $50,000 dollars per year before taxes...
He pays about 9 to 10 thousand in taxes to IRS so bring home pay is around $40,000. dollars...
He pays for our house and also the lot rent and utilities, car and house insurance, and a truck payment...
I get social security and live on about $1,000. dollars per month...
I pay for groceries, gas in my car and medical bills for myself and medicine...
It takes every cent of my money each month to live for just me alone...
My husband pays all the big bills and any extra I might not can afford...
I am also paying on my moms pre-arrangement funeral plans at about $200. dollars per month, so that eats up a big chunk of my money...
My mom is in a nursing home and I manage her social security and pay the nursing home bills for her...
So I live very cheaply each month and survive only on what I get since I can no longer work...
You are very lucky, it seems, to make enough money to be able to save each month...
I wish I could do that...

I think you'll do just fine in life. At 23, and making 75k in the Boston area with the other figures you've offered, you can afford a decent car, and not have to worry much about finances at all as well. My advice is to save and diversify your investments also - Start young! You won't regret it in the long run!

I was thinking how one can give so many personal information under the guise of a Question. However, I have starred it for use in future as reference to know the cost of living things in USA, for my academic interest only. IMHO: You are making a decent living as well as good saving too!
I do hope that 'happygirl' above sent you some interesting message too when she said "On a side note, you seem full of yourself. I hope you don't announce your salary / rent / car payment on your first dates. Because you come across as being big-headed. JMHO".
Wish you all the luck and hope you would be happy too.

Sounds to me like you're flaunting your success in an attempt to come off like you're being humble. Shows a lot about your character, Especially if you continue to live in a 700 sf shoe box. Maybe you need to find a better job, I don't think the one you have now is good enough. the average american income is around 45k. id say you're well above that. No need to go asking a dumbass question like this.

Hmmmm...a nice apartment in OKC, one bedroom, pool/workout center/tennis courts/tanning, is about $600 a month.
On a side note, you seem full of yourself. I hope you don't announce your salary/rent/car payment on your first dates. Because you come across as being big-headed. JMHO.
