When I realized the world was not about me and what I could get from it and others. I became more understanding of others and no longer demanded that things be done my way. I am more relaxed, laugh more and sleep better. Frustration and stress levels are practically non-existent. Serve others and you will be happy - serve yourself and misery is yours.

i'm still waiting for the day i grow up. i still feel like the little kid of the family. as far as the point when i realized that life isn't what i thought it would be,well, i'd have to say that was after i had my second child. things weren't going so well, husband was working so much out kids hardly knew him and my friends began to think i was a single parent and that my husband was a figment of my imagination. that was when i knew, my life had taken a turn i hadn't thought of or expected but, when that happens, you make a new life. a new plan. i learned not to wait for things to happen. i made things happen myself. by the time i had my third, my husband relized that life was passing him by and there was more to it than chasing the blessed buck. i'm no longer a single parent.

I moved out of my parents house and across the country at 18, but that didn't quite make me come to the realization. I think i was probably about 20 or 21 when I didn't ask them for financial help with rent, or other necessities and realized that I needed to make things happen for myself. That was a turning point for me.

I have really down to earth parents who will talk about anything with me, pretty much insured that I did not grow up in an imaginary fantasy world. I was pretty much prepared for life at each stage and it was great.

When I told my mother at age 9 I wanted to live with my father. I knew I didn't have to take the abuse her boyfriend liked to dish out. It took my mother another 17 years to learn that.
