Christmas is one of the best secular holidays around. There little of it that has anything to do with Christianity. Originally, it was just a celebration of the winter solstice.

I for one do not and have not celebrated it in many, many years. All in all, I find it annoying that the Christians force a general shut-down of America to celebrate their religion. Yes, it was originally a pagan holiday but it was co-opted by the Christians so long ago that fact it is now irrelevant. I mark the solstice, which occurs a few days before Christmas, but I do it without fanfare.

I don't know what an athiest is, but I am an atheist, and I do. Why? None of your damn business! Haven't you got anything better to do than worry about what atheists do on holidays? Not everything belongs to the Christians, you know.
Technically, not even Christmas really belongs to Christians. Do you put up a tree? That was stolen from pagans.

Do some research outside of the bible.
A better question is why do Christians celibate the pagan midwinter festival?
The feast.
The presents.
The tree.
The yule log.
All have nothing to do with Jesus and were around before 1 CE.
Even if he was real, Jesus was not born in winter. Some quick research show that. The church just hijacked pagan festivals and made people chose which event they were going to go to. Same thing with Easter. What have eggs and bunny rabbits to do with the death of Jesus? They have a lot more to do with the goddess Eostre.
The puritans banned christmas - they knew that it was not a Christian celebration.
Personally,
The presents
It's a national holiday.
The presents
It is nice to meet with my family and see them.
The presents.
Oh, it is nice to give and receive presents too.

A lot of people who aren't cristians celebrate Christmas. It is more about family traditions, and celebrating the most known holiday for their children. Also, it's a reason to give and get presents with the people you love.

Do I celebrate it? I guess in a sense yes it is more just a custome of giving presants to friends and family for me and getting together.
I do not use christmas to celebrate the birth of jesus (and history is pretty sure christ was not a capricorne)
I dont use it to celebrate santa (or aka a reworked hollyking)

I don't celebrate christmas, but I do celebrate the winter solstice.
Theologians have concluded that if Christ existed, he would have been born somewhere around August.
Christians just hijacked the pagan celebration of solstice to convert more people.

Atheists should follow christmas more than a Christian should. For 1, christmas is a pagan holiday. 2. no where in the bible does it mention christmas. 3. Jesus was not born in winter.

Because it is a truly American Holiday - there are decorated trees (pagan origins mind you), and presents, and food, and family and friends, etc.
Atheists (and non-Christians) celebrate Christmas as the commericalized holiday.
Think about it...Christianity highjacked Christmas from the pagans...and now secular America has highjacket it from the Christians. Christians did not originate Christmas.
