He asks you out on a date. He checks you out, talks to you on the date, gets to know you. If he thinks you might be worth something, he asks you on a second date to get to know you better. If he still thinks there might be something there, he asks you out again and again. When he's sure that he wants to be with just you, you and he will have a conversation about not seeing other people. When he's sure that he loves you and only you, he will ask you to marry him.

Most of the time a guy who is interested but still hesitant about getting involved will generally send out mixed signals around you. One day hot and the other day cool. Usually, when this happens it may indicate that the guy has been burned somewhere in the past in a relationship and is just looking to not let that happen again.
