If you “know” something will fail do you cut your losses and get out now or do you "go down with the ship” in hopes to save it?

Why do you have that "Premonition"?
Nothing is a failure before it actually happens.
It Hurts me deeply to said this, even GWB didn't know or wanted to accept the Intervention in Iraq was going to be a failure, (ouch, ouch, ouch).
So, the enterprise that you started it has failed so far. Now the problem is to review the consequences of "cutting your loses" or apply yourself in an effort to save "the ship".
Depending on the risk factor, that's what your decision should be.

I have been in that situation, Carl. The best advice I can give if you feel that something is doomed to fail is to get out and cut your losses. If not, you could lose a great deal more when the ship sinks. I don't know what your situation may be but, what do you think? One thing I have learned to develop over my 42 years is instinct. If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't.

It depends on the issue.....on how badly I want it to succeed. Usually I would try to come up with a "plan B" or even a "plan C" before I scrap it altogether. But if I see that none of them are going to work I ditch the idea.

It depends. I'm more of a fighter but if I know for a fact that there is no possible way to fix and it is all over, tried it all then I'll give up. I'm just to stubborn at times and drag things on.

Cut your losses as early as possible and get out, no reason to throw good money after bad, or living soldiers after dead ones.
