He was found not guilty in criminal court - so no jail time.
He obviously did the crime though, so in civil court, he was found responsible for the murders of those two innocent people, and the civil court judge ordered him to make monetary restitution to their families which the creep has yet to do.

OJ was found not guilty by a jury in which all the black members refused to find him guilty for killing a white girl. Kind of Bull Conner, Lester Maddox discrimination in reverse. But its OK, white girls are supposed to be killed today cuz der wuz slabes once. The trial was bizarre and no matter how much evidence was put on he was not going to be found guilty. However, in a civil trial in which more evidence is allowed he was found responsible and so he has to pay for the wrongful death of Nicole and Ron Goldman. Don't understand it? Well is the double standard so it makes no sense.

He got found not guilty in the criminal trial. The Goldmans sued in a civil case, which they won, so he has to pay. Good for the Goldmans! All the money in the world would never bring back, or account for their beloved son, but the financial hardship imposed on Simpson by the verdict is at least some measure of justice against him for the crime of which the criminal jury...in both senses...would not convict him.

He was found not guilty in criminal court. The Brown and Goldman family took him to civil court. The jury decided that OJ was responsible and has to pay each family and set amount of money.

He was found guilty in the civil case and not the criminal case. The Brown's and Goldman's want to be paid for the deaths of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman. If O.J. can't pay in jail( when he was suppose to be there) , he will have to pay another way.

OJ was found guilty in civil court not criminal court. OJ is a prime example of excellent defense litigation. His restitution order was entered on account of the civil findings. He would have been found guilty in criminal court also had criminal court been as lax on evidence admissions as civil court. He doesnt go to jail for not paying because he resides in the state of flordia and they cannot sieze his NFL pension or personal property for a civil debt because of the stipulations of the laws in Florida....damn guilty bastard.

He was found guilty in a civil trial, not the criminal trial. That means financially he has to pay the victim's families.

Its almost a double jeopardy standard in some folks opinion, but OJ was found "responcible" for thier deaths in a CIVAL trail. and awarded the judgement. So although someone can be found NOT guilty of a crime, our system still allows them to be found liable for damages

In a criminal trial, the proof must be "beyond a reasonable doubt". In a civil trial, it's "preponderance of evidence". So the standards are very different to be found responsible.

Earlier answerer is correct. He was found criminally not guilty, but in a different suit he was guilty.
