I am a born again christian. My husband and I use to be very active in our belief in God. We would go to church, read our bibles and always trust in God. We wouldnt do anything without asking God for his will. But now we've both fallen off the wagon. I feel in my heart that this is the worse time for that to happen. I try talking to God again but it's almost like the words wont come out of my mouth. Everytime I start being Christian again it doesnt last longer than a week or two. I want to be a follower of Jesus so bad in my heart, but Im knee deep in sin. I ask for forgiveness but I dont feel like it's coming from my heart. Please tell me Im normal. Any suggestions on what's helped you other Christians? Please help

You seem to be showing evidence of a sensitive conscience and that's a very encouraging sign. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin and judgment, and that needs to happen first before we can truly repent. So please take heart from that.

Having started praying to God again (even if it's silent prayer, or thoughts) be careful not to go on your feelings. They deceive us all the time and we pay far too much attention to them. And Satan knows this! So he's coming down hard on you, to compound your guilt whenever you try to get back on to the narrow path. The antidote to this is believing the promises of God, despite your feelings. By faith, you claim the promises (such as "The blood of Jesus cleanses us from ALL sin" 1Jn 1:7 or "The Lord is faithful and will strengthen and protect us from the evil one" 2 Thess 3:3 and "Everyone who believes in Jesus receives forgiveness of sins through his name" Acts 10:43). Tell God that you believe you are now forgiven, thank him and trust him (one day at a time) to enable you to stay on the narrow path. And here's an illustration to help.

When God forgives your sins, he casts them into the bottom of the sea of forgotteness. The Devil then comes along and tries to start fishing, to drag those sins up again, but God puts up a sign saying, "No fishing". If God is not going to cast your sins up against you, you have nothing to fear. Ignore the Devil's taunts!

I understand that sometimes the worst thing a Christian can do is go to church. There are so many people there that want to stop you from following God. Everybody has to have the same gifts and do things all the same way. It's all nonsense and can suck the Spirit right out of you. Take 10 mins a day listen to some uplifting christian music, read a passage form the Word that talks about the freedom of the believe in their walk with Christ. Pray but don't worry about what you say or the form you use just tell God what you are feeling. If you don't feel close to Him right then, tell Him. Be still and listen for Him to answer you. That meditation can fill you faster than anything else. Lastly on the Lord's day take your husband by the hand and ask Him to join you in prayer. You start, thanks God for your husband, for the love he gives to you. Pray for his happiness, ask God to give you the ability to be the wife to him that he needs. You can't just do this once. Make it part of your life.. It only 10 mins a day. You have the time. This WILL work and God WILL enter your lives again like you have never experienced before.. Jim

You are normal. I went through something similar where I just didn't feel the presence of God. I felt my prayers were not even getting past the walls. I didn't feel right with God. Then after a month or 2 without Him, I was so desperate for him. I prayed "I love you and need to feel your presence. Please give me a fresh start" and instantly, I felt His loving presence all around me.
Also, I just want to say, just because you don't feel God or anything, doesn't mean that he is not there. The bible says that He'll never leave or forsake you. Sometimes he pulls back to test you. To show yourself what you are capable of or how you would react to certain situations. To help you grow as a christian.
Take for example a mother teaching her baby to walk. She will hold her hand while that baby is taking her first steps. After a while, the mother will let go of the baby's hand and have the baby try to walk on her own. At first, the baby will fall, but the mother will always be there to pick her up and then try again. It's the only way the child will grow and develope properly.
Same with an eagle. They make their nests on top of big cliffs. When it is time for the babies to learn how to fly, the mother will push her baby out of the nest. Just as the baby is falling to it's death, the mother will always catch him at the very last minute. She will never let him crash. She will bring back up to their cozy nest and do the same thing again the next day, and the next, and the next, until this baby bird learnt to fly on his own.
This is how we develop into mature Christians. God is always there, watching out for us. He'll always pick you back up. Call out to him from your heart. I will also pray for you.
Your break through is on it's way.

Hey, sis. You still feel you are a Christian and you still seek after Christ, so by definition you still are. If you are truely knee deep, do what you can to stop and keep praying. Truely repent (which means make a u-turn) and realize that once forgiveness is honestly asked for, it is completly granted. God will remove it as far as the east from the west and remember no longer. It is Satan reminding you of it.

You should be going to church. More importantly, though, you need to find fellow believers who you trust and confide in them about your struggle. Be honest and open with them and believe it or not, "being" a Christian will get easier.

Oh, and the Bible says all have sinned and fallen short, and that there is no one righteous. So, YES YOU ARE NORMAL!!!

Keep in mind that it's not about you, it's about Him.

You are a sinner. So am I. So is everyone who reads this.
What makes you a Christian is the acknowledgement that you are a sinner (which you have done) and the belief that Jesus died in your place for your sins.

That's the faith part, which it sounds like you still have. So, you are just fine.

Now, your faith, which usually transformed into works, have fallen off track. This is perfectly normal because, like the rest of us, you're just a fallible human being.

What I didn't see in your writing is how much you read God's word. Crack open that Bible and read it. Every day. Start from Genesis 1:1 and read all the way to the end. Hold your husband accountable for being the spiritual leader of your family, and have him read the Word to you.

Everyone backslides. Yes, every one of us. The fact that you show a conscience about it shows that you are still on the fast track to success.

I felt the same way I would be on such a good road then I would fall into depresssion and cut myself amongst a bunch of other crazy things.
When I was desperate enough to give up >>everything<< thats not like Christ He opened the eyes of my heart. Surround yourself with people (who will not judge) who will help and encourage you and love you with the love of Christ...(For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God) Ask God for the desire to give w/e sins up and reach toward that goal step by step. I listened to uplifting music I wrote to Him prayers I asked for forgiveness read His word had godly influences...

Thus sayeth the Lord:

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

I'm Catholic yet I'm in almost in the same situation as you are. I haven't resolved my issues but all I can say is talk to your local religious leader and try picking up each other once in a while. Remind yourselvwes about God or something. Use a something that will instantly remind you of what your faith is and God.Talk to your husband as well, he might be a source of strength for you.

First, I am sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with your faith, sister. I will pray for you

I noticed you have said the best solution first: You are still praying. Good, keep it up. Everyone has the doubts you are expressing at some point. Keep up with your prayers, and make an effort to read your Bible more each day and it will pass. Be strong in your faith. Try to remember what drew you to Christ. Think about that when you feel distant from God. Also as one preacher paraphrased the Bible during a sermon at my church: The road to Hell is a nice broad paved highway with free golf carts to carry you there. The path of Christ is a cowpath through the brush and cactus. (I live in south Texas.) The path of Christ is not the easy one. It is the hard one.

Take inspiration from Job. He lost, his servants, his land, his family, even his health, and yet retained faith that God would deliver him. Joseph is another good example. His brothers sold him into slavery, yet through being faithful, and being a good servant he rose to be second only to Pharoah in power. Have faith that God will deliver you through this dark time. Elijah, Moses, even Jesus questioned God at times during their life. Elijah, after defeating the prophets of Baal, became a fugitive and asked God to kill him. Moses told God that he was not a great speaker to go and talk to pharoah. God's reply: "Did I not make men's mouths?" Jesus in the Garden of Gethsamane(spelling?), asked God to let this cup pass from me. Each of them questioned their belief, and opened themselves to God's will. Have faith, and may God's blessing be heaped upon you, sister.

A brother in Christ.

LOL your screen name is "cherry pie 69"!?

I can't help but think you are not serious in your question due to this. If so, this is quite funny.

If you are serious - maybe it is because you feel incomplete. You have the Scripture, but you should have the fullness of Christ's Church and the Sacraments and the Traditions handed down by the Apostles. Explore Catholicism.

But you are normal. Everyone struggles at times.
