Two good A/V products are:

AVG AntiVirus
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Avast Home Antivirus
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

(Note: Only use one anti-virus product as running more than one can cause conflicts thus rendering each ineffective. Same goes for firewalls)

You might want to consider some other freebies that you can use to protect and run scans as well.

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall

Kerio Free Firewall

SpywareBlaster (inoculates, not a spyware removal tool)

Spybot S&D (free version requires manual updating)

AVG AntiSpyware

Adaware from Lavasoft (free version requires automatic updating)

you get what you pay for. I have Trend-micro/PC-cillin. 40$ combined w/ Web-root, spyware. they do it all automatically, no problems or scares.
