Not sure how much $ from the USA to Aussie, but try happy hour prices to get a better deal.

Other option is to stowaway on a ship LOL

Another option - get a job on a cruise ship...

Best option - SAVE $

At the moment, the Australian government restricts the number of airlines that can do direct flights from the west coast to Australia. This means that prices on this route are artificially high.

The cheapest flights tend to be via Taiwan and Japan, so have a look at JAL and China Air. These flights involve a stopover - usually overnight. Fares also vary with the time of travel. They will be cheapest in non-peak times such as November and the first half of December. January is expensive because it is Australian summer school holidays. The fares drop again in February. If you are flexible with dates you should have a look at when high and low season fares apply.

But it will still cost ~$1500. It just depends on what "very cheap" means.

Youre going to need a tourist visa for starters, and airfares are going to be well over $1000 for starters. You can probably stay in a youth hostel once you are here. They are reasonably cheap provided you dont expect too much. Though i wouldnt recommend coming to Australia while the USD is so weak because exchange rates are not in your favour.

The fact of the matter is - you have to cross the Pacific Ocean, so - unless you get here by sea and are prepared to spend a lot of time at sea, flying is your only other choice.

And to expect "very cheap" flight from the USA, I think you have an unrealistic expectation of teh cost of travel.

Just be patient and save up money.

I think you need more than a passport too. you need to do more homework on the australian laws and immigration rules and regulations.....

and like the mouse said - you have to travel over water - so you can either swim, boat, ship, canoe, or have a jet up your @ss and fly here yourself........... which would be quicker - best option though catch a plane - try Qantas.
