Do the cars theme. You can find most of your party supply stuff at walmart and target. You should also do whatever your son is into. Like for my daughters first bday we did Dora, then her second we did tinkerbell. She loves Dora. If you think your son isnt into anything, I would just pick something that he knows about, like a cow or trucks or cars and go with that theme. Heck you can even do a johndeere party.

Keep it simple. Since it's summer, take advantage of a nearby park. Your two year old is going to be absolutely insanely thrilled with balloons, cake and presents so don't go crazy worrying about too many games or fancy themes. Pick his favorite character and you'll find everything you need at the party store.

Organized activies don't work well at that age - have a pinata and maybe one game. Throw in goodie bags (small ones) and you're done! I had all kinds of nice appetizers and finger foods and pizza was the big hit - lesson learned.

Check out brightideas.com , they have some pretty cool stuff. Oriental trading also has some party supplies. I just get creative and base the party on whatever my children are currently excited about. One thing I always try to do if I have lots of little ones coming is to either have a pinata or make up some goody bags which I give out right before gift opening, this way everyone has something to play with.

Im in this same stage. My three choices are all an at home family bbq, but still working out the theme. It will either be water, obstacle course, parachute, or music.

Water would obviously be a small pool, lots of buckets, etc.

Obstacle course I was going to get some cones, maybe one of those tubes they can crawl thru. Things re can re-use as outdoor toys. I also just got a catalog in the mail that had a "parachute" in it for $30, that I thought looked fun.

Otherwise with music, we'd do homemade instruments out of recycled tubes, colored masking tape, etc, and do some kind of jam/jamboree. Bang on stuff, dance party, etc.

My son will be 2 in less than a month, and we are going to have a party at my in-laws' house... (at the end of the backyard is a park!) Not sure what we will do for food yet, might just be pizza like last year, but my son loves Sesame Street, so that will be the theme! I definitely recommend being outdoors, it's cheap entertainment, and most kids at this age really just want to be outside anyways! :) Plus, it saves you from any messes that could happen with little ones!

I hope this helps!

An outdoor party, at a park or your local zoo, would probably be ideal. Decorations can be minimal, two year olds are happiest running around and playing in the sand.

I know it is fashionable to hire clowns and ponies, but they will probably just scare a two year old. You don't need to spend a whole lot, he and his fellow two year olds won't be impressed anyway. Whatever you do, don't get a pinata until he is at least five!

My son is 2 and he just had a birthday party.. He likes so many cartoons and things that we could not just narrow it down to one.. So, I did bugs.. I made his cake a spider and the cupcakes different bugs.. We had a BBQ outside and it went over great.

PARK, PARK, PARK! Inexpensive and great fun for the kids.

I have fall babies, and wished I would have planned them out a little better. Birthday parties indoors cost a few hundred dollars.
