You take the 401 eastbound into Quebec. The highways from Toronto all the way to Halifax are all labelled as part of the TransCanada Highway system, so you just keep following the signs for that.
As someone else mentioned, it is easy to get messed up going through Montreal, but if you can make it to the South Shore of Montreal (Brossard, Greenfield Park, Longeuil), you can take the road that runs along the shoreline (Boulevard Marie-Victorin) and that is part of Autoroute 20 East which will eventually be part of the Trans Canada Highway again.

it is quite easy once you get though Montreal, that is the difficult part. make sure you pick up a map and / or have great instructions because after 8 years we are just finally not making the wrong turn!
Just head east, go to Quebec, then through montreal, past quebec city, through riviere du loup. head towards the NB border, down through edmunstun, past fredricton towards Moncton, through moncton to NS.
It takes us about 16 hours from Cambridge to Moncton, and halifax is approx 2 1/2 hours from there. i would calculate a 20 hour drive straight as we do tons of driving and don't mind being in the car the whole time without stopping too much.
