House Minority Leader John Boehner, speaking to a private gathering of Republican activists last night, called the Senate's immigration compromise bill a "piece of ****" but said that he had promised President Bush earlier in the day that he would let his teeth be a barrier to such thoughts in public.

My problem with it is this. President Bush, McCain, Kennedy and the ilk, are LYING to us to keep the truth from being spoken. Boehner was strong armed by Bush to keep his opinion of the bill quiet! Boehner is a representative of the people. He should be telling us the TRUTH, not agreeing to keep the truth quiet! What is wrong with this picture and this government.

They are continuing on with this idea that if they push it through quickly or in secret they can accomplish more of their "personal" agendas than govern by the Constitution and the will of the people.
I have been shocked and amazed at the massive loopholes in many of these bills and laws. There's a paved road out of everything that leaves no one responsible for anything.
I mean I remember when my dad gave me my Social Security number.....It was private, personal, don't loose it don't give it out for anything but jobs and taxes. Before long you HAD to show and give your number for EVERYTHING. I've done that for most of my life!!! NOW they say it's unconstitutional or a breech of civil rights or something.....where have they been for the past 35 or so years? Where was the ACLU or all these people supposidly for American rights then? But NOW they come out of the closet and say all these things I've been required to do all these years are wrong just to protect the illegals? Why is my word still not good enough but an illegals is? Why are people serving time in jail or a host of other things if they are against our rights? Why do these guys get free legal service everytime they stub their toe but a citizen risks going bankrupt to fight for their rights? Why is every single thing known about me from a push of a button but they "can't" tell if someone is illegal or not? I don't buy it....don't get it.....and 100% don't trust this government anymore.

I hate to be the one to say this, but other than the rare "Normal person," most people who get elected, forget why they got elected.
I feel that the blame should go with the big businesses that want cheap labor, and President Bush's desire for history to remember him as a liberator.
I believe that history will remember him as a bumbling man, who's only redeeming action was to after Bin Laden after 9/11. However, since then, he has neglected the common person here at home.
Now, Representative Beohner has fallen into the same trap that many party members do, that is to try to stick with the president and present a united front.
If Representative Boehner thinks the legislation is crap, then he should stick to his guns and vote against it.

The truth that they are hiding, because no one would listen anyway, is that the government literally cannot afford (politically or financially) to do what most people want to do, which is to kick the immigrants out.
In any case, liberals have been saying that Bush is a liar for years. Now that immigration is an issue, all of a sudden conservatives are saying it. Hmm... did he just now become a liar? I don't think so. Conservatives voted him in. Too bad.

I hadn't seen that, and thanks for the tip.
If it's true, then it shows just how low my party has sunk. If the bill is a piece of ****, then Boehner should say that publicly and not hide the truth out of some misplaced loyalty to a president who no longer cares about American citizens.

Yeah, I saw that and almost decided we should draft Boehner for President in 2008. ["I promised the President I wouldn't say anything negative about this piece of s*** bill."]
Then I saw what Elizabeth Dole was saying and decided she might be the most ELECTABLE person with a solid opinion on this topic. Wonder if SHE would be willing to run? I think she would definitely give Hillary a run for her money.

Nothing new in this.. Bush strong arms anyone anytime to get what he wants. What amazes me is that he does have that hold over so many. Wonder why.. what is everyone afraid of.

I didn't see that item, but Republicans here seem to have forgotten that the immigration bill is almost totally the bill Bush wanted. Calling the bill a "compromise" or "bipartisan" is a smokescreen make it possible to blame the Democrats.
