I'm absolutely amazed at so many people saying you should keep your cat indoors!!! How cruel that would be. Cats are meant to be outside some of the time. I agree you might like to keep him/her in for a couple days so he/she gets used to his home, but please don't keep him in longer than that.

As for were you too harsh - I think perhaps you were a little but I'm sure it was because you were upset. Perhaps you could go and see her (especially as you say she is a lovely lady) and say you're sorry if what you said was a bit rude, but you would prefer her not to feed your cat as you need to know what/if he has eaten as you don't want him to become obese or something like that.

There was a cat who lived over the road from me and everytime our door was open he would walk through it. He would wait at our driveway till we came home! He was a beautiful cat and we loved him dearly but we never fed him as we felt that wouldn't be the right thing to do.

But PLEASE don't keep him indoors!
Good luck.

I do think your answer is a little harsh, yes, in that she probably isn't going to pay your vet bills.

I would answer her question by saying that you'd prefer if people didn't feed him because he's an outdoor cat and you want to make sure he comes back home for his food instead of going to various neighbors.

If she is obviously still feeding him, then I'd ask her not to again, this time a bit more crossly. Point out that if she wants to feed a cat she might consider adopted one of her own and respect your wishes concerning YOUR pet.

If she won't stop feeding him, I doubt there is really any legal course you could take. The only thing I could think to do at that point is either put up with it or make him an indoor cat, which for a cat that is used to going outside would probably be nerving-wracking for both you and the animal.

Hopefully if you make your wishes known in a civil manner, your neighbor will respect your wishes.

Yes you are being harsh if that was an old lady, what happened to respect... Oh yeah no bu**er has any now days!

I have had cats all my life and totally love them, I know cats will go where they are happy. Our cats cats go into our neighbours houses and 1 of our neighbours comes in ours but they all go home again. Our cats love us and no matter how much you fed them although they will eat the food and take the fuss they would always come home.

Ones of the reasons I love cats is they are independent and if they are not happy they will just up and leave. A dog will sit there and take whatever you do to it even though it may be capable of doing something about it.

Like our marriage it is a voluntary thing we are together because we want to be, I love knowing my wife is here because she wants to be. Same deal with the cats I know they want to be here or they would not be.

This is then not an lovely lady. But you told her "if you feed him she is going to pay the vets bill" then she did not stolen your cat from you. Try to find out rather what kind of food she is giving your cat - then you go and buy some and win your cat's heart over again so he can stay with you and not the other lady

unfortunalty ..the cats usually choose their owners..they dont care if u hand reared them or not..i know that sounds harsh but i had 3 cats who dissapeared and i found out they went to local lady ..she has all 3 now and they are well looked after..i was gutted at first but they seem really well and i see them almost everyday when walking to school ..so they not far away..

also cats dont usually leave a home because someone else is feeding them ..have u introduced a new pet of any kind..got a job.. or introduced anything at all?? cats can be very picky ...

Has your cat moved in permanently with her? I guess at least she was honest and told you! You could get the cat back and keep him in for a while and say to her that while you appreciate her looking out for him, he's your cat and you would prefer her to stop. You could contact your local animal shelter to see if they have any cats and perhaps take the lady down there to find her one of her own? Tricky so good luck.

some people do not think how it will effect the owners of the cat, and that it is actually part of someone elses family. i know it sounds harsh but it may be worth keeping the cat indoors for a month or two so that it can get a feel back for where it actually lives.

You can get her back, you have the right to take him back as legal owner, and your vet can help you prove that's your cat. If he is chipped that goes to prove it too.
You can also now let her know to not wait for your cat to appear and get her own.
But now you HAVE to keep your cat indoors for a while, otherwise she'll just do it again and next time you won't get him back. Is your cat fixed? Nows the time to have that done too....
She probably means well, perhaps help her find a kitten going for free?

I really don't think she has "stolen" your cat. lol Cats are free spirits. My mom had quite a few cats during her lifetime where they would wander off but they would return. I would personally feel lucky that there is a lady in your neighborhood that is actually being nice to your cat. I would let her put dry catfood out on her property but give her a nice understanding that it is your cat. Your cat knows where home is.

First i could make a police document of what has ALREADY exceeded off -- then that's ON record. Then if something happens to kitty you and the police comprehend top the place to initiate looking. I agree, appears like she's started out to feed your cat to particularly catch him over to her living house the place she will administration his comings and goings. Letting him exterior appears like a bad theory. Is it available to construct an enclosure someplace on your assets, say a decrease back porch area? Any fenced in area on your assets could artwork, you may purchase those vast tent-like enclosures with show aspects, and placed it up in the decrease back backyard. Then kitty can nevertheless flow out, yet he can no longer roam, and could't wander off (or stolen). this form too... if he did happen lacking... somebody had to Tresspass onto your assets to get him, meaning forethought, making plans, etc, and an on the spot CONVICTION/reformatory term in the event that they get caught. She of course thinks she will get away with "snatching up a stray cat" on the line. even while she is familiar with the place the cat comes from. She'll could desire to think of two times approximately relatively coming onto your assets with the specific purpose of kidnapping... incredibly once you're continually living house while kitty is permitted out.
