despite the fact that I spray them with frontline? I have even sprayed their ears before I go out for a walk, but it makes no difference. Last summer I must have removed at 30 ticks from my dogs. All of the areas where the ticks had been became infected & left scar tissue under the skin. One of my dogs ears is now almost completely scar tissue. I dread this summer. Any ideas on how to prevent them or how to find them on my dogs before they latch on?

The ticks have to actually latch onto the dog in order to get the frontline into their system. they will eventually die and fall off. I use the k9 advantix for my dogs and this works good.
good luck. ticks are bad this year

You probably don't spray on their faces, which is good, because you shouldn't. Or frontline is not strong enough. Or it is not absorbed well. What you could try is to use ampoules instead of spray (Frontline or Advantix or Stronghold). You put the liquid on their back, and it gets absorbed by the entire skin of their body. Also put a Scalibor collar on them, keep in mind it takes a week to work. The ampoule treatment must be repeated every month, the collar must be changed every few months. I use a combination of ampoule and collar.
It is important to avoid the ticks, not only because of the scars, but because they cause ehrlichia. It's a good idea to check your dogs for that with a blood test next time you go to the vet, since they had ticks. This disease is very nasty, it is treatable with antibiotics, but if not diagnosed in time it can kill your dogs.

When taking them for walks try to avoid long grass. That is where the ticks are. They do not move or jump. They wait for a host animal to brush against them and then they hook on.As regards frontline I do not use the spray but the ampoules of the correct volume for the size of the dog.Apply to the neck about every 5 weeks. It stops ticks, fleas and mites. I have not had any recurring problems since using Fronline ampoules of the right strength. Are you in the UK? I get my frontline from a pet pharmacy in Scotland. It is a lot cheaper than the vets.Try www.bestpet.co.uk

try to keep your dogs out of long grass and bushy areas. I suggest u place your dogs on "revolution" ( this is a drop that u put on the dogs back once a month during tick season) so they do not catch any illnesses from the ticks. Try using a insect spray on them. Spray it on your hands first and then rub it on their ears and face gently. avoiding the eyes, nose and mouth. Repeat this every day to provide a long lasting effect. If u need to remove a tick make sure u get the head out of the dog and put POLYSPORIN OINTMENT on the wounds so they will heal faster and infection shouldn't set in.

If you are putting a flea and tick control on your dog, all the ticks should be dead. If she does get infested with ticks, she could get very sick and die. There are many tick born illnesses (lyme's disease, rocky mountian spotted fever, just to name two) These diseases are very serious and can be difficult to treat. You really need a good flea and tick product to keep these awful things off her. They won't be able to get into her ears or anywhere else on her if you use a good product. It will kill them.

Keep a good eye on them as you are walking. Ticks mainly grab onto spots that are warm. Our Dachshund has gotten that but not as bad. So just keep an eye on them and check THOUROGHLY before you go inside. Use a tweezer or piece of tape and flush the tick down the toilet. I hope this helps somewhat.

ticks usually latch on in long grass so try to avoid this at all costs if you don't want your dogs to get them.
