Dude, are you speaking to us from the dark ages via some mysterious wizard made portal? That doesn't happen in the 21st century! Unless you're applying for a job at a church or some other religious organization where it's probably a valid point. But if you question the need to have religion and god, then why the hell would you want to work in a freakin church?!?!

I have never ever been asked what my religion was by any job except for the US army,so that they could put it on my dog tags. I then spent the next 6 months trying to get them to put Atheist on them, which they finally did. Now it is done with no problem, but in 1986 they didn't want to do it. Other than that I have no memory of any job asking my religion,if they did I would probably just leave the space blank as they have no legal right to inquire.

When you run into that question on any form, simply put "atheist", if you believe that there is no God. Why lie about it? If you believe that there is no God, then your religion would be atheism, just the same way as my religion is Christianity, as I believe that there is a God, and His name is Jesus. The only difference in our two religions is that I just happen to believe in one more God than you do.

Apparently you do not live in the USA. In America it is illegal to ask a person their religion or to use that as a factor in determining employment. A person asking your religion during a job interview could be sued for doing that.

No one has ever asked me about my religion when I have applied for a job. You must not live in California!

That way they'll be able to know u at least, like work days off [w/e holidays u feel the need to observe], your diet, and just a little bit about you. To most people, religion is very important to them and it gathers everything from your world views, to your actions, to your laws, that way they'll know how to better treat you and respect you. If you don't have a religion just check that you're atheist. If you're still searching then probably agnostic?

In all the applications forms of the Government offices and educational institutions, always the applicant is compulsorily asked the religion and caste.
The Central and all State Governments provided reservations in employment/jobs and educational institutions to members of the Scheduled Castes/Tribes and OBCs; in addition to lot of other facilities: FREE houses, house sites, agricultural lands, seeds, fertilizers, occupational equipments, dresses & uniforms, books, hostels, monthly expenses, etc. They can avail of it so long as they are Hindus and SCs STs & OBCs.
The very important & much necessary condition of remaining SC, ST, OBC is to remain a Hindu in Hinduism. Hinduism is not a religion. It is a culture, custom, tradition, way of Hindus' lives in Hindustan (India). It is claimed as such by all the well known Hindu priests, scholars, intellectuals, books, scripts, the Ruling Party BJP & Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal, the Indian & International strongest Hindu organisations RSS & VHP, etc.
Hinduism categorised Hindus in 4 varnas and the remaining were untouchables ie worst & dirtiest than dirty animals. The castes born in can never be changed as per Hinduism (Holy Bhagavad Gita), Supreme/High Courts and Central/State Govts' orders, laws and rules. All those claim and confirm that Islam & Christianity have no castes.
The SCs, STs, OBCs are much degraded & lower viewed, humiliated & insulted in Hinduism which practises casteism based inequality. The moment they embrace a religion and convert to Islam or Christianity, they lose all Govt. facilities though their financial and social condition will remain the same. They have to pay such big cost of coming out of the Hinduism; hence mostly prefer to remain in Hinduism for such financial benefits by tolerating all atrocities, cruelty & harassment..
The moment, the Govt. withdraws these facilities/subsidies and reservations, millions and millions of SCs, STs & OBCs will atonce jump out of Hinduism and embrace a religion Christianity or Islam. Hence learned intellectual scholar Hindus in power always continue such facilities to SCs, STs & OBCs to keep them in Hinduism suffering all sort of inequalities, inhumanities, insults, humiliations, etc.

Where are you?
That is an illegal question to ask prospective employees in the US. You do not have to answer anything about religion on a job application.

All those who have answered the question, please see carefully that the question is in "yahoo india" . This is not for US.
Regarding your question, yeah, I know, you hv to put in religion in any forms, be it in schools or for jobs or anything at all. I too dont like that idea but you know how it is in india. Religion is the reason for everything bad thats happening in india. So I'm not surprised about it. I would like it to change though.

I understand that employers in Northern Ireland still ask whether your Roman Catholic or Protestant, in some places you cant get a job if your Protestant, and in other places you cant get a job if your Roman Catholic. Still, I suppose that in Northern Ireland its understandable, given what happened there over the past 20-30 years.
