A person can be a Christian and do a good job for Jesus as a Christian in an ordinary job like a Baker, Builder or Electrician. The way that person raises there family interacts with people that they work with and spreads the Christian message in their day to day life is a good example of doing a good Christain Job.
Of course being in the minsitry either as a pastor or evangelists or Christian teacher in any form is mostly considered what a Christian job is. Though pastors need secretaries and typists and some of these big TV guys have whole media departments that look after thier fundraising and press outputs and so all of these jobs would be considered Christian jobs.
But the ordinary Baker is still needed to form the church body..
The un-Christian job would be like others have suggested drug dealers and pimps and prostitiutes but also people that work and have dealings with tobbacco companies and like you said whaling. I don't consider most jobs un Christian though the press can be a bit that way so can wicked holliwood movies be un Christian.
I hope that helped

Allot will depend on the person's concience.
Do they work on the Sabbath will be an issue for many. Christians recognize the need to continue 'necessary commerce" such as hospitals, restraunts, power utilities... but some poeple may feel some things are not necessary commerse and have an issue of concience
Then some industries may be detrimental to health such as the tobacco industry and that will also be an issue of concience for some
Obviously porn industries, dancing in a strip club or being part of the abortion industry are not acceptable Christian activities
Whaling and foresting are up to ones concience as would be working in the Democratic or Republican party... those are issues of individual concience

A christian job is any job you do for the glory of God, and is within his will....... A credit card can be a good tool when used correctly. Some Christians say we shouldn't borrow money at all. I would say a credit card is one of the freedoms in Christ, that if used correctly can be a benefit. I think you have a wonderful opportunity to see that people read the whole contract and the fine print. Most people get into trouble with credit cards.it is there choice. Is is possible you can help people understand how a credit card works. Its not the credit card its our greed for stuff that makes us miserable.

Simply put, a Christian job is something you can do to the glory of God. That can be a lot of things: teaching, ditch-digging, nursing, writing, driving a bus, and on and on. An "un-Christian" job would be something that does not glorify God or goes definitely against His standards as set out in the Bible: things like prostitution (doing or promoting), drug trafficking, porn, pole-dancing, and of course murder for hire.
The whaling example isn't particularly useful because its "immorality" is based on an emotional response. There isn't a single use of the word "whale" in the Bible, but Peter and co. were mostly fishermen.
Shabby business ethics, like those demonstrated by many top executives (think Enron etc.) are certainly unChristian but one could probably be a wealthy entrepreneur and do it "clean"--however it would take more work, I should imagine.

No work is immoral if you have a family to feed, and they would starve if you couldn't find a decent, "moral" job. Except maybe pimping. Or ho-ing.
I think it's far more immoral when fat cats pay coal miners slave wages, then do little or nothing to help protect them, while they roll in the jake. It's far more immoral when CEO's make millions of dollars a year, while skimming from pension and retirement funds, and the peons lose everything, but it takes YEARS to get to trial.
If people look at work in relation only to morality, it opens the floodgates for more "guest worker" programs, more offshore outsourcing, and more kids going hungry cause Mom and Dad can't get jobs.

Hello. Blessings and Peace.
A Christain job includes being a missonary ( spreading the good news), volunteer ( working in a ethical organisation- that benefits the community and not an other individual), member of the clergy (bishop, church elders and priest) and something which entails correct Christian ethics- Salvation Army and Christian Aid.
A Non-Christian job includes being a celebrity ( ungodly living), porn stars and porn models ( ungodly and dwellers in the flesh).
The job has to be humble and modest, it brings in income. It is important to make the right choice.

LOL. For christians.....if you take the bible literally all men should be priests and all women should just have babies and not work.
As an Atheist, i understand the need for every job within the society we have created for ourselves. As an individual I think that anything jobs promoting or helping the destruction and/or suffering of people/animal or nature should be avoided.

Most jobs would not fall under either group. Putting a part on something as it moves down an assembly line for example.
As the Christian jobs, you would have to include things such as being a pastor or other church employment directly involved in supporting or expanding the Christian faith.
Non-Christian would be any job that opposes the spreading of the Christian faith (such as by spreading a different religion), or that support immoral (and usually illegal) actions such as drug dealing and prostitution.
Politicians, however, are the only people who claim to be part of both groups, and are wanted by neither.

This is a good question. When I first got saved I was a bartender. After being saved I started to feel convicted serving alcohol. I quit and stayed home for a month until I got bored. Then I worked at Hastings (movie, Cd's, books, etc) and got convicted selling the devils music and the devils movies. Well, I ended up quitting and now stay at home. We Christians can only work at places as long as we are not selling anything that is of satan or alcohol and such. Decent clothing stores are ok and other places like that, and also hospital work is ok too.

Hello,
I've thought this question before! I don't think it really matters altho you should be able to work out the kind of jobs which aren't suitable for Christians. Also think "does this job uphold my christian beliefs?". Remember whatever you do, do it as if working for the Lord, God will put you where he wants you so you can shine for him in whatever job :)
