I was 21 when I got my first tattoo. I got it on the top of my foot so I can see it and enjoy it, but it is still in a spot where I can pretty easily hide it. My tattoo is a symbol that I saw in a book while I was writing a paper on ancient cultures. It's pretty hard to describe and the people who used it in their art didn't have a written language so it's anyone's guess what it means. But I like it. Some people have told me that it looks like a boat propellor, but I really don't care. It's mine, I thought it out for a long time before I got it, no one probably has anything remotely like it and I love it!

I was 21 when I got my first tattoo. It's a rose with a serpent wrapped around it on my left shoulderblade. I've had it for 11 years and I love it as much today as I did the first day I got it. I'm lucky that my skin holds the pigment well because the colors are still vibrant (even the red in the rose). My husband got his at the same time (a panther) and all the green and red have faded out so it's just a black blob (still looks like a panther, just a shadow of a panther) so he's going to get it redone.

I was 23 and a half when I got my first and only tattoo. It is a rose-bud just above my bossom on the left.

Even at that age I was a pretty shy person and having a tattoo, I thought, was like making a statement at being some sort of a rebel. All the same, the tattoo was a symbol of my love/freedom/heart/self; just like a rose waiting to bloom.

I am married for over seven years now, with a five year old kid (both of them know and have seen it). Belonging to a pretty conservative background (post marriage), I do find it a trouble trying to hide it from friends and immediate family and definitely from total strangers at the local swimming pool where I take my kid.

But know what? I loved it then and I still love it now. Because it is who I am and will always be.....A shy rose-bud.

I was 19 when I got my first. I got a blue bear holding a yellow daisy. I love it. It was simple not to small not to big. And it reminds me of my son. At that time I was going through some rocky spots and my son was always there with a smile and a wild flower. There has been many times I don't know what I would so without my smiling son.

I was 18. It's a blue daisy on top of my right foot. It is a Christian symbol for humility.. I've had it three years now and I still love it, although I want to get a violet (the symbol for faithfulness) added next to it and I'm too scared because now I know how much it hurts! I wish I had just gotten both flowers to begin with.

I was 18 when I got my Cobra on my upper arm. Guess that makes it ( and me) old school! LOL. That was 30 years ago and I still look at it and awe that the color is still vibrant. I was real fortunate that the artist I had do it was one of the best in the field.

my first tattoo was my name in korean (my mom is korean so it wasn't just random) and i got it on my 18th birthday. it is now covered up with another tattoo. not because i didn't "like" it but i just realized that i didn't really think out the tattoo or the placement or the design and i wanted something artful.
